Post by nohomo420 » Sat Jun 15, 2019 6:52 pm

Hello humans, I’m new to this but I would like to start a four piece 90s alt/avant-garde hardcore punk rock band (Nirvana, Pixies, The Cribs, Mudhoney, Fugazi etc) I’ve got 2 90s lefty Jaguars and if you got Jaguar with humbuckers and live in the Los Angeles area come and jam with me any further questions DM me on instagram @schoolrules420

Well, I was going to say for reasons of homogeneity, but the user name is clearly "No Homo" so I guess that can't be it.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

So I actually applaud op for making a post like this - for the amt. of time in the last twenty years being on guitar forums, I’ve seen very few posts anywhere about musicians who *actually* want to gather and play music. There’s a lot of potential in that concept - yet it seems most people are too shy or something; or perhaps want to give the illusion their social lives are too complex to solicit such things.

That said; forming a band with Nohomo420 because I look good with an HH Jaguar strapped on me sounds like a weird life choice that would bear explanation.

I get what you're saying - there isn't nearly as much talk about making music, as there is worship of the objects on forums - but i think most people who do make ads about starting a band, post them in local classifieds to attract people near them. If it was just about finding people with pretty guitars, Pano and I would've been making music nobody cares about, years ago.

Good point - I put my ‘resume’ on a (physical/material) bulletin board at Guitar Center in the early 2000s and wound up with a band. But nowadays, the internet seems like the easier place to find musicians - just as it is the case with random sex.

If you can reliably pick out a shortscale playing Nirvana with a DS-1 or Fugazi with a Big Muff, I will eat my hat, pay you a million dollars, or otherwise offer to do something I clearly never intend to do. I say this as someone who owns about 8 shortscale acoustics and electrics.

Having said that, I hope you get your band together and have some fun.

OSG: Old Surly Grouches.

Neat! Someone here is talking about forming a band and making new music and they like jaguar guitars-- FOR SHAME! Let's take him apart for his perceived ignorance and cluelessness. ::)

^ My general understanding of the "no homo" thing is that it is a joke about getting away with perceived 'gay' activity. Like if one guy sucks another guy's dick and says "no homo" at the end of the deed then it's not gay -- even though everyone knows that is gay and okay.

I'm pretty sure it's not something said out of ignorance, but I won't be surprised if some OSG soothsayer tells me the error of my ways.

Would I chose it for my user name? No, but then again, I've never smoked pot either, so I wouldn't slap that ol' 420 at the end of my name.

Isn't it much better if they don't? I was playing a Strat in one band and we took on a guy who also played a Strat, sounded kinda weird to me so I switched to something with P90s.

Saw an ace band a few months ago, one guitarist played a few tentative chords on the rhythm circuit on his JM and I thought "that sounds horribly muffled", the other did the same on a solidbody Ric and I thought "and that sounds way too glassy" - then they started off together and the overall sound was incredible.

Sure .. so what drug is denoted by the number 018?
