removing paint from plastic, HNB to the rescue
i am open to suggestions.
I bouht a set of old National Val Pro knobs. Originally a cream white, currently painted black with either nail polish or model paint.
Any ideas about a remover that won't attack the plastic?
These knobs are beyond impossible to find. Only used on a couple supro models, drilled for pots I have never seen before. I'd hate to ruin them..

I've been to one World's Fair, a picnic, and a rodeo, and that's the stupidest thing i ever heard come out a pair of headphones.

Not sure- does the paint chip off with a bit of persuasion, or does it seem to have really bitten into the plastic?

Got any pics? I'm with antisymmetric...a test chip might be revealing

they are pretty chipped and worn already, but with the flutes, i was feeling lazy.
they safest thing might be to scrape them with a dental tool, then polish them up.
i wish i were into normal stuff. Apart from these fairly obscure guitar projects, I have a series 2 land rover and a triumph cub spread all over my shop. Anything that is hard to find parts for in Pennsylvania, I'm in!
idiot.
here's a photo. The pots are dated on the side, and have solid 1/8" shafts. I originally assumed these guitars used the d-shaft mini pots that you find on a Harmony.

dude!
oven cleaner!
i knew there was something old-school that we used to use to strip our D&D figures!
Shame on that guy for stripping the chrome off his death star droid, though...

nooooooo! obscure is good, the odder the better! That's literally my main requirement in a guitar 'will almost no one who sees me playing it know what it is'
The fact it's mostly gone already bodes well. The Mr Muscle thing looks cool, if you haven't got anything like that to hand, I'd see what soaking them in a bowl of lukewarm water with some washing up liquid will do. Picking it off with tools would work, but you might end up with scratches...it looks like it's not stuck down very well though, so it may just flake off with a little encouragement.

Re: removing paint from plastic
check this out.
bought some oven cleaner, sprayed one knob. After an hour or so, i scrubbed it with a toothbrush and rinsed it off.
there doesn't seem to be any damage to the surface, although i lost the pointer mark...

Those came clean! I assume you used a permanent marker or something to do the indicator line.

Oh wow. I've heard of using brake fluid, but oven cleaner seems better. Oven cleaner's good for a lot of things, apparently, like cleaning intake manifolds. And ovens, even.
This is an excellent rectangle
