Cyclone neck on a jaguar body?

Post by tdbajus » Tue Jun 11, 2019 10:59 am

Anyone know if this would fit?

Kind of daydreaming about a 24.75" scale Jaguar....

Unless you're handy with a router and willing to do some modification on the Jaguar body, the simple answer is: NO, as it won't intonate.

I had seen a few postings saying that the necks would fit on a mustang body. They did not seem reliable postings, though.

Same situation: mustang and jaguar are both 24". The only possible alternative with those bodies is a 22" neck.

You would need to plug the bridge and move it to intonate correctly since Cyclone and Jaguars are different scale lengths.

Just because the scale is different doesn't mean it won't fit; after all, there are plenty of conversion necks out there.

I just think that Warmoth 7/8 Warhead, which I'm given to believe will convert a Jag/Mustang to a 24.75" scale, is as ugly as sin.

.

Play with these fret calculators and truly see what can work on your build or not.

A few years ago Disney sold these guitars, which worked out to the equivalent of putting a capo on a 25.5inch scale Telecaster's 2nd or 3rd fret -- resulting in a 22inch or 22.5inch scale length. Washburn/Samick put regular Tele pickups in these guitars -- so other than the small size, they are a regular guitar.

Of course it would fit, even a standard spec jazzmaster/stratocaster neck would.
But I guess you want a guitar that can be intonated properly. That's why I specified in my very first reply "Unless you're handy with a router and willing to do some modification on the Jaguar body".

You can either way plug the bridge holes and redrill accordingly to his Cyclone 24.75" scale neck or go with a convertion neck if you really want a 24.75" Jaguar spec'd instrument.
It surely is not a direct workable swap.

Just because it physically fits doesn't mean it will play in tune..... :fp:

You need the correct scale or a conversion neck intended for the scale of the guitar. The wrong scale won't intonate correctly. You can move the bridge to compensate for the different scale though. That would be plugging and re0drilling the bridge post holes. A Cyclone neck isn't a conversion neck. It is Gibson scale, not short scale like a Jaguar.

Try not to be snotty. You might be wrong.

For instance, as I have already pointed out, the Warmoth 7/8 Warhead neck is both gibson scale AND fits on a Jaguar. And it intonates*.

So maybe keep your facepalms to yourself.

*For those who think the painfully obvious needs to be explicitly stated.
What do you think conversion necks do? Convert your instrument to something that won't intonate? LOLZ.

This.

[edit]

This guy says he's measured it....

https://www.jag-stang.com/forum/topic/3 ... -question/

From the nut to the center of the bridge saddles it measures 24 3/4" on the nose. I then measured from the nut to the 12th fret and got 12 3/8". Then measured from the 12th fret to the center of the bridge saddles and got 12 3/8".

Yeah, but still in the dark if someone actually tried it. In this thread, and the one on jag stang forums :fp:

The last comment on the other thread, asking for an update, is from me.

So far, no answers.

This post says they put a Musicmaster neck on their Cyclone and it wouldn't intonate. I would guess the reverse would also happen, but the only way to know I guess is give it a try?

http://www.tdpri.com/threads/fender-cyc ... ck.232437/
Hey guys. I purchased a loaded Fender Cyclone body of E-Bay. Now I need a compatable neck. I know the original neck is 24.75 inch scale. I put a squire musicmaster neck on it and it won't intonate. So my question is can i put a neck from a squier tele thinline on it it's also 24.75 in scale. If not will and 24.75 inch neck work? Thanks
