Squier VMJM refin (Ice Blue Metallic)
Hey guys, just wanted to share a refin I had made by a local guy. I've been wanting to do ice blue metallic on a guitar for ages, ever since the AVRI 62 jag. I once had a guitar refinished in that, but the color ended up a bit more silver than I wanted it. That guitar went to my brother and then I kinda gave up doing it again. Until a local luthier friend of mine refinished a guitar in this color that I'm showing you.
This is actually the color for a specific year of a brazilian car, someone had this guy paint a guitar in this color and I thought this was pretty much a beautiful shade of ice blue metallic, so I just asked him to replicate it for me.
The color varies A LOT with certain light conditions, but this is pretty faithful to what I see in person, and without any filters.

Looks great! Is it nitro? And what was the car btw?

No, PU. The color was called "Azul Boreal" from the color catalogue I think from 1991 of the Volkswagen Gol.

That's probably my favourite colour for a guitar.

Pretty spot on, really. Why didn't you get a matching headstock though? :/

Gotta tell you, I'm not a fan of a matching headstock with IBM... I loved the AVRI 62 jags but not as much the AV 65's... can't explain tho, just like the yellow headstock with this color.

Wow, nicely done. IBM is one of my all time faves, not seen enough on factory instruments nowadays.

Wow looks gorgeous
I'm planning a IBM like Jag too but the colour is really hard to find.. there are many different shades in that grey/silver/blue spectrum and hard to find a authentic IBM one.. also ok if it's a bit off or something else but I know what you mean.. hard to get it "right" and this looks really good!

You're not kidding about the color. I think the best strategy is to find someone who did it how you like it and then ask them to match it.

What's the story behind that signed pickguard btw?

The pickguard was from my J Mascis, I took it to a Lee Ranaldo gig in São Paulo where I met him afterwards and he signed it. Was pretty awesome, he asked what was the jazzmaster and stuff, we talked briefly about it and I gave him an album from my band. A few months later my wife made this frame, this was all her idea, with the washing machine cover and all.

That guitar and that framed pickguard/story are both too cool. Love that shade of blue you picked. Unique and looks perfect on the JM. You have great taste.
