Newest build using reclaimed 100 year old pine

Post by Kinghat » Mon Jun 03, 2019 7:13 am

I thought I would share a bit of my newest build. The pine came from a building in downtown Texarkana that was built sometime around 1908-ish. I really like the look of the old rough wood, with herringbone and laminated binding. Here's the body. Note the side shots: the wood is being removed from the building due to a fire from several years ago. I think the smoke damage penetrated down into the rafter beams through both sides.

Wow, that looks amazing. What's the rest of the build going to look like in terms of pickups, hardware, neck, etc?

I'm totally up in the air on that. Originally it was getting an all-electronics-mounted-pickguard, but I want that spot on the lower cutaway to be exposed. I am leaning towards two humbuckers in black rings with a half tele bridge and tele control plate

Mother of neatness... It's freaking gorgeous!
What did you flood the wood with, is it epoxy?

Lots of lacquer coats. The pic was taken when the coat was still wet

The herringbone is perfect! I love the look of the end grain, too!
I’ll be following this for sure!

Amazing! Right from the get-go you had some amazingly figured wood to work with but adding the binding was a masterstroke!

I'm eagerly awaiting updates for this one.

Really nice, I love the way the binding works with that wood. A very cool idea. :-*

Your build of course but imo this would look amazing with old hardware. Bigsby, sorkin bridge, pair of pickups salvaged from something cool and old

For some reason gives me Harvey Thomas vibes in it's current form

I'm thinking Bigsby and Firebirds, for the metal to be different from the wood...
