Just one he sent me a long time ago. He got is AS A GIFT for his daughter from a super rich guitar collector old dude. It may be unique, and it was mint when he got it. He always teases me about how his daughter is drawing on it with crayons...

Re: Were there natural finished 70s Jazzmasters?
OK, cool. That definitely looks like the real deal. Amazing how, even after over 10 years of religiously following this forum, something new comes up about the Jazzmaster.
I still have my doubts about the '58 though. The natural wood look was all the rage in the 70s but 1958? The first year of production and with a blonde finish available (that partly showed grain), not to mention all those other attractive custom colours. I dunno. Never say never but I'm sceptical & would love to see close up pics of the neck & heel pockets.
I guess it's possible that someone saw something like an ES225 TN and decided they wanted the same look only on a Fender guitar.
In fact, the more I think about it....you know how bands back in the 50s were very colour coordinated - same pale suit, same colour guitars as each other? Maybe there is something in this after all.
DeathJag, get your friend on it! *

You think you can't, you wish you could, I know you can, I wish you would. Slip inside this house as you pass by.

It looks legit. It's incredible that these weren't confirmed in OSG before. They must be extremely rare, I wonder how many were made? Probably about 10?

not loads of point in speculating, but for there to be two that come up on reverb when you do a quick google, I'd say more than ten.
There are certain guitars I've never seen for sale that I know were made in proper batches...eg 50/100

Re: Were there natural finished 70s Jazzmasters?
There was a natural one for sale about 8/9 years ago. It went for about £1200 and I felt it was too much for a 70s offset (plus I really wanted a Jag). Too much...
I contacted Jim Shine about it beforehand and he basically didn't rule it out as original. I may still have the email somewhere...
The photo on OSG pops up every time I look for one. It's haunting me!

Is it me or does that waist look really thin? Could be the angle but the body shape looks really pinched in the middle...

It does look like it has a little bit of a weird shape to it... Interesting guitar!

Doesn't Jason Lytle of Grandaddy have one? I always looked like a 70s natural Jazzmaster to me. Of course I don't know if its original or just stripped.

I've been thinking about doing this to SQ JMJM. I think I have enough tru oil left over from a neck refin i did. This thread is definitely helping that cause
