Daphne or Sonic...
He got me all interested by saying he was going to go through the positions on clean.......... then only played 2 of them before going back to ultra fuzz.
Seriously, if you're going to show off the guitar's sounds show them all with the same amp, pedal & knob settings. Sure, once you've done that then you can say "and now, here it is on the dirty channel!" These people don't remember high school science? Control all other variables, then we have a perfect reference point to better hear the differences.

TBH, I've always felt like the only thing I really get out of guitar demos is how the guitar looks in someone's hands. Between the setup, their amp, their mic, their recording interface, YouTube's crappy compression, and my shit speakers, there's a very very slim chance that that's how the guitar is going to sound when you're in the room.Futuron wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2019 4:45 amDaphne or Sonic...

And besides, if you don't like the sound of a guitar it's probably one of the easier things to change.

Re: Fender Alternate Reality Sixty-Six
I keep seeing this touted as "what iff a jazz bass was a 6-string spanish instead?" but really it's just a hss strat with a wonky bod.
a fender jazz guitar (that isn't yet a master... jazz student? jazz apprentice? jazz noob?) for me would have
-jazz-style body shape and hardware (pickguard, chrome plate)
- TWO pickups and no more, like two tele neck pickups or something
-hardtail bridge. offset vibrato would be nice for how i play but JAZZ BASS AIN'T GOT NO VIBRATO, SON
on paper, I'm sort of into the sixty-six as-is, but I don't like modern fender necks much and it seems everything other than MIJ and MIA stuff tends towards being overly heavy. if someone started making repro bodies in the same style i'd rock one on a parts guitar

Re: Fender Alternate Reality Sixty-Six
Totally agree. I have talked to custom builders before about getting a scaled down J bass guitar but it just never came together.
Part of my plan was to put rail-polepiece jazz bass pickups in it, or ask a custom winder to make a 6-pair polepiece set of vintage jazz bass pickups, to see what that would sound like.
Still might rout one of these and try that TBH.

I want the chrome covers. It'll look so sick for all of the 5 minutes until everyone removes them for getting in the way.MechaBulletBill wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2019 6:43 amI keep seeing this touted as "what iff a jazz bass was a 6-string spanish instead?" but really it's just a hss strat with a wonky bod.

Re: Fender Alternate Reality Sixty-Six
FYI, Rosser Guitars has their take on this shape up on their ebay listings now ($95)! It doesn't list a Jazzy trem as an option, but it never hurts to ask.

Well, if you'd rather have the prototype model of the Sixty Six, here's your chance:

Hahahahaha! 2009! Now I know what year I found the Fender marketing picture of it.CROSS_guitars wrote: ↑Fri Oct 18, 2019 3:16 pmOh cool. I don't hate this as much.spencera wrote: ↑Fri Oct 18, 2019 1:30 pmWell, if you'd rather have the prototype model of the Sixty Six, here's your chance:

Also, $3,699?
I'm sure some Fender dealer in '64 looked at the new Duo-Sonic II and thought, "That's not a Duo-Sonic. That's a Mustang".
