I know we all have some jokes we will never tire of, so I get why Blues Lawyers are essentially the wrestling heels of the guitar world. Like the joke itself, I suspect that most of the blues lawyers we disparage aren't really doing much these days? I don't know-- as I am also older and out of touch.
I really love Albini's recording aesthetics, techniques and knowledge. As noted by others, I think that gruff exterior stuff is kind of an act. I've always wanted to record with him.

And I have no ill will toward any of the above.

I‘m wearing a flannel shirt, I have a beard and I own several offset guitars. And I own a vintage record player. And I know who Steve Albini is. Good lord, I’m a hipster

You could also just be middle aged. If you were wearing a flannel loincloth on the other hand...

The last time I was young was when years started with 199* or 200*. So... yes, I'm probably just getting old.
If you want to know if you're still cool, here's an easy test:
As soon as you question your own coolness, you're not cool anymore. Period.

Yep. I jokingly give up with my kids when they're ribbing me and reply with
"I'm from the 1900s, WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM MEEEE?!?!?"
