Awhile back I did a test run on my CNC to see how this double-dye stabilized burl stuff I've been making machines. I used it as a test run to try out the Jazzmaster files I had created, as well. The pictures below are the result. However, since I don't build clones this truly was exactly that: a set of tests.

Therefore, since I have no use for it, I'm going to play a game!

Rules:
1- Anyone that is willing to pay for the actual shipping costs of the body if they win is welcome to play
2- You must have the abilities and desire to complete the project
3- You must post the full specs of what you intend to complete the build as
4- You have til March 17th to enter
5- After March 17th I will select some of my favorites, start a poll, and the forum will vote for the winner

Current specs of body:
* Poplar body wood
* Double-dye stabilized blue/green maple burl top with black epoxy void-fills
* Standard JM thickness, routing, etc.
* Screw holes for trem are too large and will need to be filled and re-drilled
* Needs sanding
* Pickguard used to map out placements of parts was, I believe, https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Parchment- ... :rk:9:pf:0

Let the games begin!

I've been sticking to my short scale guitars lately, so i might not enter, but I really dig it!
(Christopher, also)
I've been to one World's Fair, a picnic, and a rodeo, and that's the stupidest thing i ever heard come out a pair of headphones.

The rules of the game are labeled 1-5 in the OP.

Good luck to everyone who enters. That should end up being a really cool build one way or the other.

I wouldn’t be able to complete it in a timely manner, so no need to enter, but boy I can’t wait to see the build thread on this bad boy

Rules updated to remove ConUS requirement. Don’t know why I put that in there... if someone is willing to have it shipped further, power to them!
Best,

I've done a couple dozen guitars over the past 7-8 years and have a complete wood shop and spray equipment so finishing this would be an easy task. So, here's what I would do:

Finish the back in black lacquer
Install a maple neck w/rosewood fretboard and abalone dots (seems appropriate to match the top). with locking tuners & bone nut (already have it)
I like the idea of a parchment guard but would also try aged white and black before making the final decision
Rose Pickups Picasso pickups for JM with black covers
Image
Wire it as a normal JM, no fancy stuff.
I would use a USA Fender trem & a Deed_Poll bridge if I could talk him out of one, if not I would do one of those custom bridges with tele barrels in it, haven't tried on and it sounds interesting.
knobs would be some black bells with abalone tops (in the knob drawer waiting for a home)
String it up with some flatwound stings and have some fun!!

Wow!
Two stunning beauties! I have thought about making colorful pickguards like that once - but never thought about the bodies before!

Having access to various workshops (luthier friend, carpenter cousin, sculptor dad) finishing the project shouldn't be much of a problem.

Specs: a B&B neck and a Staytrem-bridge are already at home waiting to be used!
What I would need additionally/plan to put on is a either a black or mint pickguard, witchhats or the big knobs I've bought for my diy-effect pedals, some cool JM pickups - either from the creamery, AV65s or SDs - which should all be easy to get! (Maybe I end up asking you if you could send on an AVRI Trem unit with it (US stopover needed/wanted) - as these just aren't commonly to get on the used market here or even new if not from the guitar they come with.)

The actual shipping costs shouldn't be that bad to Europe (customs only apply if it's an item stated to cost more than 150€) - but as it is a give away this shouldn't be a problem either! So hell yeah, I'm entering! :w00t:

Nice idea! Thank you, Chris!

EDIT: How do I match a headstock to these?!
I'd possibly make it black to match the pickguard or leave it if it's gonna be a mint or parchment guard.

That's a very generous offer and a cool game play. I have put together several parts caster and finished/refinished many guitars (necks and bodies).

Here's what I would build with this body:

- Clear nitro top - full gloss
- Back painted in transparent tinted nitro, same color as the reddish-brown you have used on top, but since poplar has not much of a grain, I would give it a
slightly higher concentration of dye for a rich color.
- Gold pickguard*
- Novak Jazzmaster shaped WRHB on neck*
- Novak Jazzmaster shaped PAF on neck *
- Allparts rosewood neck
- Gotoh vintage style tuners *
- I would start with a hard-tail trem plate* with a possibility of switching to a traditional trem later.
- Same knobs as my other JM partscaster

* Already have these parts/items - will post a pic later today.

Below are some of the parts casters and finish work.

Thanks for opening this up to outside of the US!

Heres what I would do. I've built a fair few guitars that have all had their progress documented on this forum over the years, most recently a blue Starcaster so I'd say I have the abilities to do what I had planned here.

Excuse the lack of photoshop talent but this is to give an idea. I'd like to think im a far better guitar builder than graphic designer :D

Image

Dye the back a dark turquoise, with a slight burst keeping the edges darker.

Back and top finish in tru-oil done to a soft shine.

Gold anodized pickguard, most likely from a AVRI 62 unless theres a better source.

Allparts neck and black painted headstock.

Cream pickup covers and Creamery vintage style jazzmaster pickups https://www.creamery-pickups.co.uk/vint ... p-set.html

Fender USA tremolo and mustang bridge.

Not a fan of rhythm circuits but as all the gold guards have the holes I'd at least put the pots in there even if I didn't wire them up :D

Heres my most recently finished build for the sake of it too ;)

Ok, so I would:

-stain the back a walnut brown.
-finish with Tru-oil.
-a get custom custom semi translucent acrylic blue green pickguard (Deimel style).
-no bridge pickup.
-all black hardware, possibly a black wilkinson roller bridge.
-no rhythm circuit.
-black Fender barrel knobs.
-rosewood neck with a custom headstock and no fret markers (if possible).
-Bootstrap custom pickup with a black cover.
