NCAFPD! (New cab and face plate day)

Post by smjenkins » Sat Jan 12, 2019 1:40 pm

Last year I found an excellent handmade blackface DR clone on Reverb that had a switchable output transformer that could support 16, 8 and 4 ohm outputs. I had a few different 8 ohm 10" speakers on hand so I thought it would be cool to get a cab made with a 2x10 baffle to make a mini-vibrolux and try different speakers combinations. I had mojotone make the baffle and a custom faceplate and had another cabinet maker build a maple DR cabinet. I put it all together yesterday and it sounds glorious. Currently it's running one alnico and one ceramic speaker which is an interesting combo.

That’s pretty sharp looking! How much does this weigh compared to a normal DR?

Oh man, that is beautiful. I love the combination of the grill cloth and the maple. :?
Now I need a wood Princeton for a living room amp.

It's heavier, but I don't think a ton heavier. I will weigh it when I get home and compare it to my 68' custom DR. Keep in mind the alnico speaker will weigh it down a bit more as well.

That's a beautiful cab/faceplate/grille combo.

OK, after the weigh in:

- Maple cab DR with 2x10" speakers: 42.4lbs
- '68 Custom DR with 1x12" speaker: 41.2lbs

Pretty much a wash weight-wise.
