VST Synths....what to get.

All instruments that aren't guitars (or bass guitars).

VST Synths....what to get.

Post by budda12ax7 » Sat Dec 01, 2018 5:01 pm

Well....I upgraded to Presonus professional and have been trolling through some sites that have free VST synths.

Went and got a Moog, OBX, Juno 160.

Does anyone have any recommendations for free and paid synths?

Look into Rob Papen, his Go 2 is cheap and great. The others are also.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Synth1 is pretty good, a lot of people like it. It can do a lot, and is based on a Nord Lead.
Mr. Ray and Mr. Tramp are free e piano vsts. They're very very good.
If you want a DX sound, you can get Dexed for free, and it will sound right.
I dunno about good sounding organ vsts that are free. The only one I really like is the Arturia vox continental, which is paid.

For paid VSTs, I'd say buy the arturia collection and just call it good.
This is an excellent rectangle

Re: VST Synths....what to get. New Question.

VST question----how do I load the presets into the synth. I can get the synth into the DAW and it opens and works in my presonus, but some of the free synth stuff have another folder of presets. How do I get that into the DAW? I'm stuck.

Here is the site i'm pulling free stuff from....all above board. Not a cracked pirate site.

Depends on the DAW and how the synth is arranged. Some synths have the presets built in to the interface, and some don't. As long as the preset folder is in the same folder as the .DLL file it goes with, it should be accessible to the synth. Most synths have a preset selection scheme built in. A few rely on the DAW to provide that, and of course implementation in that case varies.

This is the correct answer. They had a 50% sale that brings the price to $250. You probably will never need anything else, ever. It is worth every penny.

I'll add my vote for the Arturia collection as well. Pretty much everything you'd ever need, and if you pay attention to their regular sales, you can always get it upgraded at pretty low cost.

Redtron Mellotron - not a synth per se, but a wonderful, free instrument.

What did you think of the Go2?

I downloaded the trial version of Go2.....I like it. It sounds very modern covering a lot of territory. Tons of presets...it works great with my Studio One....the CPU drag is very lite. I will probably spring for the paid version....it's only 40 bucks.

Thanks

Bought the TAL UNO 60.....glorious old school fun. It comes with hundreds of presets, but that chorus sound is amazing. It has some great arp sounds...once I set up the midi learn to the midi controller knobs it will be really interesting... This sounds great.

Looking now at the OBX pro II....it has a bank of "famous sounds" and it's on sale at 85 bucks.

OBXed is just as good. I had OBX pro II, and found it kinda underwhelming to be honest. I uninstalled it.
