NGD! Early 2000's 62 Jagur AVRI

Post by JagWire » Thu Nov 29, 2018 7:15 pm

Hello fellow offset lovers!

A few weeks back I snagged this early 2000's 62 RI Jaguar from a friend for a mere $800. As you can see from the photos theres some damage to the finish (hence the price). Apparently the original owner pissed off his girlfriend so she threw nail polish on the guitar, in a feverish attempt to clean it up he used nail polish remover on it! Thus removing some of the nitro finish. The damage is limited to the area shown and for the price I couldn't pass this bad boy up!

I tried to capture how the original ice blue metallic has greened in the photos, it looks just gorgeous in person. :?
I just set her up and threw mustang bridge on. I have plans for a stay trem (accepting UK friends to aid in this ) and some new pickups. I'm thinking bare knuckle - suggestions?

Anyway enjoy!

That's a phenomenal deal for $800! Still looks great if you ask me.

Thanks I thought so too!

At first I thought it would bug me but nah I never even consider it. Hell I kind of like how you can see a tiny bit of the wood grain peeking out!

Thanks!

And I have been. I can hardly put it down since I took the buzz stop off and swapped out the stock bridge. Every one of my friends who plays it says its easily one of the best playing guitars they've ever held.

Cooool! GREAT story too! I don’t think that damage warrants a refin. I love it, because of the story!

In April I got a new-old 2002 AVRI jag and I LOVE it. I paid waaaay more than $800. I got another one after, but an AV65 one. It’s also great!

IBM AVRI Jags for the win!
One of the best colours for a Jaguar. One of the best models of Jaguar.
Can’t lose. Great deal!

That guitar is simply beautiful, I love those! Cream of the crop!

Is it just me or the AV65 IBM is a very different shade? I know yours is a bit aged, but even when they aren't, I find the AV65 to almost look like led or something... very different and a lot less blue.

Great deal- I'm not even into Jags that much, and I'd have hit that thing in a New York minute. Now all you have to do is become famous so that one day the Custom Shop has to replicate the damage exactly on a signature model.

AVRI Jags are great guitars(AV Jags are great too), and certainly for 800 dollars!
It seems to have yellowed already quite a bit.
What I think is strange is the color that is showing on the underside where it is scratched; there seems to be Ocean turquoise or Sherwood green under it.
Anyway, nice guitar; enjoy it!

Funny, I just picked up a 2005 IBM AVRI62. $800 is a steal. I paid a lot more than you did.

The stock pickups are so-so IMO.

Does Bareknuckle make Jaguar pickups? I didn't know they did and I don't see it on the site.

I was considering Novaks or SD Antiquity (I). Possibly Lollars in an underwound A2 matched RWRP set.

I agree. They do the trick but I'd really love something with a little more depth and chime.

Bare knuckle doesn't sell Jaguar pickups on the website, but last I heard they will make you a set if you order the telecaster pickups and include in the notes that you'd actually like a set of jaguar pickups. I spoke with one of the sales reps and he said they make a really nice set based on a 62. Much like the ones in the Johnny Marr signature except RWRP ;)

Thanks for the tip! I may have to go with BKP in that case. They have never let me down.

Hopefully they do claws too.
