That sounds fun. The Casio is my least favourite part of that, especially the way he uses it, but still very cool. I think effects like delay and reverb add sooooo much to otherwise bland sounds.
The nasally/thin/8bit sound kind not reminds me of the It Follows soundtrack at times too, like on the "Jay" theme from the soundtrack.

Leave it to Knobs to do a beautiful tutorial on the benefits of modular synthesis.

The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

Re: The Synth Thread...
I came across this little page that lays out the keyboard matrix used on my casio and the CT-410v. There are, apparently, a number of features and sounds in the chip that aren't used, and can be hooked up. It's geared more toward modding that other keyboard, but the guy's MT-45 links to it for "the instructions" and it's pretty well laid out. Could be a fun breakout box project at some point in time, though there are plenty of other things more pressing to finish up first!

Knobs isn't always the most direct in their videos, but they make the most artistic and beautiful demos of anyone. I love watching Knobs' videos

I have the previous model- the 50, I think. I have been a fan of the Zoom weirdness for a while, but while I still have it, I don't love it. Is the 70 an improvement?mackerelmint wrote: ↑Thu Jun 21, 2018 7:59 pmThe *ahem* Zoom MS-70 CDR.
I swear that's the greatest single pedal ever made. There are plenty of youtube videos of people running synths through them to wonderful effect.
Also, there is something weird about the prophet's output. I think there is some kind of impedance issue, maybe? That's what I thought I'd solve with the re-amp boxes....

Re: The Synth Thread...
Funny, but I had the same revelation, but in reverse, with Rhodes/Wurlies: they really don't sound their best, IMHO, until you run them through a guitar amp. Rhodes into a Magnatone w/vibrato could very well make a person faint. Delicious.StevenO wrote: ↑Tue Jul 10, 2018 2:30 amI already told Mike about this, but I have been not really enjoying my Moog Prodigy for awhile... Pretty much ever since I got it, it always sounded harsh and too "raw" sounding. Not particularly musical in any case.
Now, silly me, I had been running it primarily into guitar and bass amps and often both at the same time. At my old place, I had no room to set up my recording setup so there was no using a mixer or any kind of monitor. Welp, my new place has that. So I'm now playing my synths through an interface/mixer and monitors, and holy moly does everything sound better.
Seems like such an obvious thing, but yeah...

I could definitely see that being the case for an electric piano. To me, those are more like guitars than anything.

Re: The Synth Thread...
I dunno, I don't have any experience with the 50. IIRC, that one covers all the bases, right? The CDR is modulation, delays, and reverbs, and they're nearly all very good sounding.tdbajus wrote: ↑Thu Oct 25, 2018 8:20 amI have the previous model- the 50, I think. If it's an impedance thing you're dealing with, then I dunno. If it's coming out of the prophet wrong, it's probably better to fix that than buy some kind of impedance matcher/switcher/whatever.

Re: The Synth Thread...
Prophet should have no issue driving anything but low impedance studio gear. Reamp box is just a preamp for interfacing low impedance studio gear with the high impedance amp input, unlikely to solve the issue. Sounds more like something is wrong with with the prophet's output stage or something between it and the input amp of what ever you are plugging into, chord, plugs jacks. Or possibly the zoom's input amp if that is the only thing that causes the issue.

Re: The Synth Thread...
I just chopped my Microkorg. I'm a proud owner of an Ampukorg now:
It's very easy to do. I got the idea and instructions from this site: http://cavisynth.com/cut-your-microkorg/

I never thought of chopping a micro korg, that makes them considerably more interesting to me, I dislike keyboards on synths. Nice work.
Edit, haha, just noticed your rebranding, nice!

I'd love something like that. I'm surprised more companies don't offer modules like that. Sometimes the key-part of the keyboard is my least favourite part of a keyboard. That's certainly the case for Microkorg.
I know LCD Soundsystem has a system of about 4 or so chopped Microkorgs. Really cool.
