Me neither. I've bought and sold enough guitars in GAS-fueled frenzies to know that I don't need one of these things. I can't get rid of it because it's not mine. I bought it for my wife (that was my excuse). She still holds on to the hope that she'll learn how to play and it has sentimental value, but beyond sounding like a shitty version of GnR/Boston and whatever every now and then I'd much rather sell it.

I think the underlying Fenderness of this forum is emerging in this thread, as one might expect. I’m still pro-LP.

I'm also someone who has wanted to like LPs, but they never fit my playing.

They're one of those guitars whose tone I have admired as part of many other people's rigs, but never fits into mine in a way that I'm happy with.

Gretsches are my humbucker guitars of choice. Filtertrons just might be the greatest pickups ever designed.

I bought and sold at least 10 led Paul's over the years from standards to custom shop R8's. Sold them all with out regret, never wanted any of them back and thought lp's just were not for me. Then one day I played a 2016 traditional and bought it on the spot! Been with me as one of my main guitars since! I guess I had to find the right one!

I think one of the biggest takeaways of this conversation so far, has been that Les Pauls have a higher than usual (like 70's Fender?) sample variation, and that you can't just buy a pretty one off the web.

I'm in an even worse situation...I want an explorer. I don't play anything even remotely RAWK, but they just look so cool to me.

I spent a big chunk of the 80s wanting one SOOO BAD, after I heard that The Edge played on on "I Will Follow."

Yeah this is exactly why I’d go for a Greco or Yamaha or some other Japanese version.

If I was trying to get an actual Gibson I’d feel ok buying sight unseen anything from like 2000-2006.

Definitely this. Just based off the ones I've tried in stores, I feel like the frequency of Les Paul lemons is significantly higher than the other major solidbody models.

In my experience early-mid '90s Les Pauls tend to be really good as well. Every single one I've played has been absolutely spot on in terms of quality. No idea why.

But yeah, I'll join the "I've owned a few Les Pauls but never really got on with them long term" club. The only one that came close was a black 1975 Deluxe but I still ended up selling it after a few months.

I had a 1990s lp Standard and the Yamaha studio lord that replaced it was better in pretty much every regard (for 1/3 the price at most). (Now gone, too).

I’d go with a Yamaha SG/SBG if I wanted a heavy sustain machine.
