NGD - Offset Tele content

Post by Debaser » Thu Oct 04, 2018 12:48 pm

Hey hey OSG, it's been a minute. Recently bought a MIJ Mahogany Offset Telecaster. I don't know how it happened actually, I can't even explain why I like the woody look so much. Probably the fat mahogany neck. It needed a tort guard, so I made one, flipped the controls and threw in a meatier bridge pickup with compensated saddles.

I love these so much. I have one as well, it's replaced most of my guitars and shares the #1 spot with my tele now. I see that tele with a dynasonic in the background and funnily enough, I'm thinking about doing that to my offset tele (The p90 actually sounds great, though).

I like it.

Can't do the flipped controls, though. They just don't work for me.

That Tort looks great on there. Also, this seems lighter than the ones I've seen lately. Really nice looking guitar

I had to nearly route all the way through the back of the body for that one, even after clipping the elevator screws. It was worth it though, big boomy bass that you can reign in with the adjustable slugs. If I had to do it again, I’d just get a TVJ T-Armond.

Agreed. The P90 is not going anywhere.

I guess it’s about swells over switching. The only other Tele-style I flipped before was on was an Esquire, which makes more sense. I can see why it’s not always the best location.

Nicely done! I think the reversal of the Controls might make a lot more sense. How complicated is it to do that?

I do like the contoured body over the tradional Tele body.

It would look great with a Bigsby or Fender Locking Tremelo.

Thanks,

Lars

Lars,
It's not too difficult, just move over the volume and tone pot assembly, and bring the switch around to the back. Wires will need to be extended. On mine I had to extend the switch-to-volume pot lead and the output jack leads to the volume pot. There could be more extensions needed depending on how much slack the factory left inside.

I do tone and volume swells all the time, but I put my finger on the aft end of the knobs, and the switch messes with my tone swells. And I'm just used to the original config.

Thanks man. The guard is StewMac material, with a 1/8” round over edge instead of an angled bevel. Heh, It actually looks like fire when looking through it with a backlight.

Very cool—I particularly love that bevel, and no wonder it looks unique w that rounded edge. Super tight work around the control plate too!

Since I know absolutely nothing about DIY (though definitely am interested in taking the plunge),what do you use to cut the guard?
