Re: I am a huge music snob
I think this little clip of a Scottish comedy show illustrates the perils of engaging co-workers in musical chat. Always many more wanks than good guys and I'm sure they'd say 'right back at ya wank'.

Re: I am a huge music snob
Wow busy night! I didn’t anticipate how good it would feel to commiserate. I’m mostly looking into the human condition of it, and heathy alternatives. Apologies if I was unclear.
When I lived near Boston I had these neighbors who would BLAST reggaeton for about twelve hours per day, every weekend. That was approaching torture!
How about The Wedding Present? The Cure, Morrissey / Smiths and TWP do not have counterparts, in my opinion. They’re the British Holy Trinity.
Amen brother. I feel your pain, and admire your progress!
Torture? Not for me. At work or in public it’s fine, but at home or in the car it can be difficult! I usually enjoy most shit music because of the anthropological aspect, when I’m forced to listen to it.Singlebladepickup wrote: ↑Mon Sep 17, 2018 6:35 pmI imagine it’s torture if you have to go everywhere because there is always crappy music playing and lots of times normies are thoroughly enjoying it, but you have to just wait to be alone to enjoy your glitch punk post-noise afro-goth

Yes, I am so glad you have those kind of thoughts too. The thing I find is, people who don’t have what I’d call “refined” musical taste, can be similar towards other art. People who don’t care about art are not interesting to me. That doesn’t mean I think they’re less human. At all. It just means they might not be friend or relationship material. By “refined” all I mean is not mainstream, no one has to like what I like.Shadoweclipse13 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 17, 2018 10:33 pmI try not to judge people on musical tastes, as a friend, but where this gets tricky is the dating scene. Most women I know like top 40 hip-hop /R&B, which is totally not my thing. It's tough as a single dude who'd like to meet a cool woman, especially when I find out her tastes are terrible. I like road trips, and music is ALWAYS on in my truck, so if our musical tastes don't jive, it will likely be a problem.
The answer is in the thread title, what would you do instead?
So... trigger much? I’m not sure where you got the proud thing but speaking for myself I am not proud of being a snob, but I am very happy with my music taste.Grey wrote: ↑Tue Sep 18, 2018 12:31 amBeing a snob about music is nothing to be proud of.

Having a strong appreciation for music, enjoying unconventional genres, disliking popular music, or recognizing that your tastes are more refined and specific than the average listener does not make you a snob. Judging or evaluating the worth of people who don't share your tastes as being inferior is what makes you a snob, which is nothing to be proud of in my opinion.
HAHAHA that’s hilarious!shadowplay wrote: ↑Tue Sep 18, 2018 4:26 amI think this little clip of a Scottish comedy show illustrates the perils of engaging co-workers in musical chat. Always many more wanks than good guys and I'm sure they'd say 'right back at ya wank'.

Yeah, truly a mystery where I could have gotten that from in a thread titled "I am a huge music snob."

... Or my taste is just better.
Again, where is this pride you see? The title is neutral, and as I tried to explain my intent is to discuss and perhaps not be such a snob...
You’ve made your point, got anything else to say?

Wrong, it's clearly The Spice Girls, Girls Aloud and Atomic Kitten.

If you have to quote yourself to say it, you’re obviously the one with poor taste!

Re: I am a huge music snob
Having a "snobby" attitude towards music has far more to do with one's own personality than their actual musical taste, I would think.
Being a cunt about your own taste pretty much guarantees that everyone will write off the type of music you listen to instead of potentially giving it a shot.
I agree with this.s_mcsleazy wrote: ↑Mon Sep 17, 2018 7:34 am
just keep in mind holding a view like that for music can be just as bad for you as the people around you.

So you and Mcsleazy have it all worked out, copy that. Care to share constructive thoughts on the matter? I mean, that was just accusations and name calling.

Yes, here's some advice: Stop taking yourself so seriously and don't judge others for things that are purely subjective. There's a big difference between taking pot shots at John Mayer and claiming that "tastes differ, and that mine are better and more refined than theirs ever will be".
