Switching Jaguar tremolo units (60's lacquer MIM -> CIJ HH Special)

Post by Doc Sportello » Fri Sep 14, 2018 4:39 am

Hi all,

I've got a HH Special Jaguar which I don't really play a lot anymore since I got a 60's lacquer Jaguar last year. I've grown to appreciate the single coil sounds more.

I'm thinking of selling the HH Special or maybe modding it back to classic Jaguar specs, i.e. classic bridge, routing it and installing a tremolo unit + AV '65 pickups. Not looking to invest too heavily in this guitar though.
Since I was already planning to upgrade the 60's Lacquer tremolo with an AV trem, the question arose: would the MIM Jaguar Trem cover the thimble holes on the HH Special? In other words, are the AV trem and the MIM trems the same size?

They are, and it can be done. At least one person on here has done it before, and hopefully they'll see this post and be able to chime in with pics. But as I remember it, the thimble holes were entirely covered.

That's good to hear, thanks! I'll run a new search, see what pops up.
