Little Buster Finished Pg. 5
I have been a fan of this body shape because of Folly Cooly and have wanted to make a guitar version for awhile.
Basically I want to go from:

To something like this:

I have owned a Rickenbacker before and I am not a fan of set necks or their pickups. I like bolt ons and humbuckers. I also like Fender hardtail bridges. I figure I could make my own version of this idea. I think the mock up idea looks pretty sweet. I will add pictures as it progresses.

Re: Little Buster
Yup, but bolt on, with a telecaster bridge, and humbuckers. As I said in my first post, I don't like Rickenbacker pickups and set neck builds much. I wanted something that had features I liked.

Re: Little Buster
Oh and I put a Rick style bridge on one of my builds. What a pain in the ass to string up having to put strings under the cover over the saddles. Not for me. LOL I like a hardtail Tele/Strat bridge much more.

Re: Little Buster
Her bass in FLCL is what got me into almost liking Rickenbacker's! Love that show. Watching this build!! Gonna keep with the blue scheme from the show bass?
If the show inspired you, you should add a tiny piece of pipe to the end of the headstock:

Re: Little Buster
Cool project.
I was planning something similar some years ago, but never made it.
The Rickenbacker 480 and 481 is actually bolt on. And the 481 even have humbuckers

Re: Little Buster
Weird. I didn't know Rick made any bolt ones. It will still be nice to have something custom to my preferences.

Oh and it is going to have a rosewood board Peavey neck. I think the pointy Peavey headstock will echo the horns a little.

Re: Little Buster
Yeah, I have a 480 and they're cool guitars. They made a few models during this era (80s) that had bolt-on necks, the 4080 Doubleneck and the 481 Non-SF share identical necks, maybe an attempt to cultivate some cross-compatibility or compete with Fender? Rickenbacker was still trying to innovate back then.
Solid maple too (neck and body) with super high-output pickups on the single-coil models. The bridge pickup is surface-mounted which puts it very close to the strings, and the reason this works without having a super tall fretboard (like other ricks) is because the neck is set at an angle, similar to a Gibson but with a straight headstock like a Fender.
The pocket itself is angled and the neck is straight, pretty interesting construction.
So yeah, I think they're pretty cool. Unique shape and a lot of typical Rick quirks to go along with it.

Re: Little Buster
This looks like fun, are you making this one from scratch yourself? What woods are you going to use? Maple and maple like the originals? lets have some more details!HNB wrote: ↑Mon Sep 03, 2018 1:23 pmTo something like this:

Always wish I had bought a 480/481 before the prices went silly.
Nah, made by Production IG, the people who have never met a horse to dead to beat. I really have no idea if I can bring myself to watch it, the mess they turned Ghost In the Shell into leaves me less then optimistic. Third season, FLCL Alternative, starts this month I believe.s_mcsleazy wrote: ↑Mon Sep 03, 2018 11:25 pmmade by adult swim, not gianax.
I suspect this thread will be better then either sequels.
Logic gates based on billiard-ball computer designs have also been made to operate using live soldier crabs of the species Mictyris guinotae in place of the billiard balls.
