Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster Makeover
About a year ago, I posted this topic/mock up for a custom parts Jazzmaster I wanted to put together.
http://www.offsetguitars.com/forums/vie ... 9#p1429069
Fast forward to last month, I finally acquired a Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster on the cheap to use as a base.
After playing it for a bit, I couldn't go with the original idea I had for a Jazzmaster, so it ended up like this.
Here is a video of the mods and sound clips.
https://youtu.be/2wPUK93o8ag
It sounds awesome, so nothing was changed in that aspect. Wasn't a fan of the anodized pickguard or any of the specs on the stock neck.
The new neck is a Squier Contemporary Strat neck in Pearl White, which matches the pickguard and not the off white/creme body.
Locking roller bridge and roller string retainers make using the tremolo much smoother.
New switchcraft output jack and new strap buttons because the stock Fender/Squier ones are terrible.
I still want to get a white single ply pickguard with a single volume pot and a vintage/off white witch hat volume knob.
I thought about getting two YJM pickups, but I'm liking the current sound of it.
I still dislike the rhythm circuit and output jack placement, but won't be drilling for a side output jack and will be removing the rhythm circuit whenever I get a new custom pickguard for it.
Thanks for reading,

I love these white pickguards that really show off the yellowness of the body. Maybe if I get annoyed by the way my guard is wearing I'll get a white guard on there.

Looks great. Would you mind sharing which roller bridge you got for this please, and if any adjustment was required?
I've seen conflicting reports, with some saying they had to make adjustments and others getting lucky with a drop in replacement.
I've got one of those squier deluxe jazzmasters, the TOM has to go.

This one, aside from intonation, no adjustments were needed.DavidG wrote: ↑Sun Aug 12, 2018 9:34 amLooks great. Would you mind sharing which roller bridge you got for this please, and if any adjustment was required?

I'll try, no matter what I do they won't come through!
Mines actually the Squier Deluxe Jazzmaster, more or less the same as the Mascis I believe. I do like the necks, I reckon somebody will snap your arm off for it if they haven't already.
How do you like a maple Jazzmaster vs rosewood?

Or imgbb. Works for me all the time!
Great choice with the pickguard! Brings out the colour nicely!
I don't like the gold either, would either put a black anodized, a tortoise or a mint guard on mine if I'd ever have one.

Re: Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster Makeover
Due to the seller of the contemporary strat neck and I having a fallout, I decided to replace it with this naturally relic'd 2010 strat neck.
Once I sell the old neck, I'll be looking around for a new pickguard.
