Very cool. I normally don't care for burst finishes, but I actually like the subtlety of this one a lot. I like the two pickguards as well. I would probably put both knobs on the small guard if it was mine. But it's cool nonetheless.

Cheers! I must say I didn't even think about placing both knobs on the smaller plate, but that's a very good idea and it would bring a finishing touch of quirky to the whole thing :) I tend to place my knobs in these locations because they make violining effects easier for my hands, but since I'm going to be making some more scratchplates anyway, I will give it a try. I got some PVC sheet blanks through the mail and one of them is a nice light blue color that should work with the burst. I might also make some out of aluminum just for fun (and to justify the presence of an ever-growing stack of reclaimed materials by the flat's door).

Second on hating bursts but really liking your work here.

It turned out beautiful. Great craftsmanship.

The BM is back on my bench...The pickguards looked untidy and the acrylic had already started to crack in places. I had ordered some A4-sized, 3mm-thick PVC sheet from a bathroom supplies store on eBay to see if they would work as pg material. Well, they seem to do the job; I didn't take much of a risk at £1.5 apiece anyway. I also changed the knobs and made a stupidly long tremolo arm as I like to pick close to the neck sometimes.

Next on will be the neck...

It is based on the Wandre Polyphon -

...but I'm thinking it might look better if I added a bit of wood to the headstock before shaping it to make it closer to the original, ie. bigger and a bit more bonkers. I will also see if a head plate made out of the leftover pickguard material works there.

Great work on the scratchplates, any chance of a link to the ebay seller please?

Headstock looks suitably bonkers and will finish it off nicely....

It's actually £2.65 apiece, my bad...

Those are the ones I got:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-5mm-Solid- ... 0172259656

I got some in cream, green and blue, and I must say the colors are a lot nicer than they look on the pictures. This UPVC machines really well, but beware when routing the stuff, it'll send electrostatically-charged chips everywhere and they're a realy pain to clean up. Other than that, it's a lot less messy than acrylic.

Really cool, and great to see it still evolving. I like where you're going with that headstock. Bigger + more bonkers = good :)

This is so cool, I really wish my brain could come up with designs like this. Very nicely done!

365 days later...

I spent the past year gigging the hell out of the original Bopmaster - it got hit with bottles, dragged across the stage, took a bad fall in a train station, but it remains my favorite - light, sturdy and mighty bright.
Looking at it now though I'm thinking it is a strange-looking guitar - everything I drew for a while had a really small body. Probably a reaction to making a 20-pound guitar two summers ago :) Anyway, I thought I'd spruce up the outline and make it more colorful. Just found out I had a graffiti paint store five minutes away from my place that stores a bunch of cool colors in quality spray cans.
Here's the plan:

Image

(yeah, I was born in the 80s after all...I always really liked Adrian Belew's Mustang and wanted something cheesy in that vein)

Not set on the bridge & heastock shape yet, but that's a general idea. I'm thinking of keeping the Japanese trem unit / Staytrem combination from the original guitar. And, of course, there will be more stainless steel.

More soon...

Pictures of wear and damage first.

And that is a nice looking guitar.
