All my vibratos are for decoration basically, but this one certainly does have its adherents to say that these units stay in tune very well. Or at least the older ones are said too, not sure if the modern ones are made to the same quality. You know how that goes.

Let us know how you get on with it! What pickups does this model carry?

You don't seem super excited so far... I like those guitars a lot.

The Tweedy model is notorious for not staying in tune, at least this one stays in tune if the vibrato is not used.

The guitar original came with Burstbucker 1s, but the PO replaced the pickups with Seymour Duncan Whole Lotta Humbucker set. I'll be replacing the pickups with Lollar Imperials.

Great score. Those Tweedy SGs are one of the sexiest SGs ever built. Love the plain wood neck.
Thin neck SGs can be hard to keep in tune, mine gives me a bit of trouble here and there (2013 Standard), but it's mostly temperature changes and not actual playing that messes with it.

I'm a fan of Jeff Tweedy but fell in love with this model when I saw it new in the store. I haven't seen one in 6 years and when they come up on Reverb they are big bucks or dont last long. To me this is the perfect SG, but now I feel like a fanboy as I have this and one of Tweedy's old fuzz pedals from the Reverb Wilco Loft sale.

It's pretty much the perfect SG to me also, nothing about it really screams Jeff Tweedy, you know? It's just a Pelham blue SG done right. I'd say you scored.

I think the issue with the vibrato, if there's one at all, is just a lack of proper setup, probably at the nut. About the only thing that can really go wrong with the unit itself is the radius of the spring, which I believe can impact the break angle and feel, but that's about it. There's a video online of an Australian dude who bought a Tweedy SG and it look quite out of whack, but nothing that wasn't ultimately fixable.

The Rickenbacker Accent is essentially the same design, which works flawless for me, though the break angle is different and the length of string between the tailpiece and the bridge is significantly longer.

Regardless, that's a nice score. I really wish that Gibson would offer their vibrato on non-special models, I'd likely nab one of those up in a heartbeat.

Congrats.

I know that some had bad break angle over the bridge but this one seems good. It was set up by Dipinto in Philly, and I think maybe can only get better with a better nut, or maybe a tonepros bridge with graphite saddles. I used that TOM with a floating trem and it worked real nice.

Tweedy SG is a fine looking guitar. Good choice!
