Re: Song of the Day Thread
No Joy / Sonic Boom - Obsession discombobulated hobbled Donna Summer slowly peels off the layers and oozes on into a modular headache pulse.
Paper Dollhouse - Haze goes with the above like strawberries go with cream
No Joy / Sonic Boom - Slorb
Kelly Lee Owens - Keep Walking
Violet Eves - Listen over the ocean I've the 12' of this track but it's on the new Music and Memory comp Uneven Paths: Deviant Pop From Europe 1980-1991 which is well worth getting if you've a taste for off kilter 80's dream pop.
Nightfall In Camp - Cada Día this is on the same comp and I didn't know it and was somewhat dissapointed to see how much their record goes for. Think Lena Platonos slowdancing with Japan.
Fra Lippo Lippi - Stitches and Burns I took a real double take when I saw this for sale as a seven. It's a CD era album track and quite a nice wee song if not on the level of their great work (see below) and being slightly encumbered with production that isn't doing it too many favours. Completism necessitated purchase but it's been a bit of a hit in the house and even if you don't like the A the Bee is a total killer.
Fra Lippo Lippi - The Treasure Small Mercies is IMO just one of those perfect albums, that sadly doesn't get it's due and arguably sounds as relevant today as it ever did.
Fra Lippo Lippi - Sense of DOubt
Fra Lippo Lippi - a Small Mercy
Soft as Snow - Sleep/Slip CRANES style trapped in the TV poltergeist vocals meet minimal wave and 16rpm dancehall riddums.
Jane Weaver -The Lightning Back (Sex Swing remix) I was struggling to see the point of this but halfway through it started to make sense.

Re: Song of the Day Thread
Starting off with three from Glasgow labels.
Ian Hicks - Specter wall punching minimal wave techbrutalism from the guy who used to be in Soft Metals.
Phil Kieran - Polyrhythmic This begged by one question...where's my whistle! Epic post punk sludge funk, like Liquid Liquid on a Club 19-30 with PiL.
Sordid Soundsystem - Die Ewige Nacht amazing uplifting track where gorgeous marimba falls like rain before being joined by a a splendidly rippling bassline.
B12 - Soundtrack of Space (and the rest of the album) I saw this had been reissued and decided to dig my old one out and I must say I'm as enamored with it's sleek futurism now as I ever was.
Fra Lippo Lippi - RecessionI think I love this even more than I did when I bought it new in 1981. They were obviously more 'influenced' than 'influential' in this period but the last third of this with the string synths is as good as anything the big boys did.

Sterile Hand - The Hunter LOVE this new EP from Juan Mendes of Silent Servant and Sandwell District renown, this time working with a singer for the first time I can remember since he stopped being part of Tropic of Cancer. Totally number one in my street with it's blend of whip hard industrial techno and leather gloved EBM.
Clay Rendering - Towards Motionless kinda like a cross between Angelo Badalamenti and William Orbit
Still Circles - Move Alone very pretty album of dream pop with modern pop angles.
Leatherette* - National Handbag Does exactly what it says on the tin (album/tape is called Fist and Shout). Utterly superb post punk chemsex, taking the Broken English Club to the Neue Deutsche Welle
*now Total Leatherette.
Itchy Bugger - Just Sayin' lo-fi down at the heel antipodean jangle
also had Folklore Tapes Art of Divination and Two Ruins on over the Weekend. Once again they've gon that extra mile;
when you see this in person you can really see the effort that went into it, the box lid is hand pierced/punched hundreds of times and it must have taken a lot of work.

Decent effort musically though can't get on with his geezered up vocal schtick.

Re: Song of the Day Thread
I just saw Belong's first album, October Language has been reissued and being a fan of it I thought I should see what they are up to atm.
Turns out they have moved on to a new project, Second Woman which is interesting and different but similar to Belong.

Marie Davidson - La Vallée d'Or Kinda picking this as a public service announcement since I know a few folk on here like Marie. Marie's first file/tape only album/EP is getting a black...err...pink format issue. If you aren't in the US and get the horrors at paying £16 postage from Holodeck, have a look at buying it from Boomkat who are significantly cheaper on this than everyone else. E.g. Norman £26.49, Juno £20.99, Boomkat £16.99.

Golden Palominos -- the Haunting
saw Amanda Kramer alongside Steve Kilbey in a winery tasting room the other night, got her to sign my copy of "Drunk With Passion" from 1991. she seemed very pleased someone still remembers the album, and we had a brief chat about her time with the Palominos. she's nice.
song bonus: ultra-tasty guitar noodling by the incomparable Richard Thompson

Henri Texier - Le Piroguier (Be Svendsen Edit) Usually not big on edits, found this to be straightforward, functional and simply well done.
Sigurd Cochius - Indianenmars a bone dry strut through dusky Constantinople.
Borusiade -An Aquarian Feeling On heavy rotation the last two weeks, have been catching up with her radio show for Comeme, which I found to be consistently brilliant and just hitting ridiculously many right spots.
