NGD 1961 and a long time away from OSG
Hey guys, I've been gone from the board for a while for various reasons. Came back to post an NGD for my recent acquisition, which is a holy grail for me.
I've been searching for a vintage Jazzmaster for a long time, probably 10 years. Nothing really came around, or when it did I couldn't afford it. I didn't want to buy something sight unseen from the internet so I was trying to find something locally. I really didn't expect to find it when I went in to the Long & McQuade here in Vancouver yesterday morning, but an older fellow who had owned it since new had just sold it and it's 1961 Concert Amp partner to the store that morning. His parents bought him the set when he was young and it's apparent by the remains of the note letters written in marker on the back of the neck that he learned to play on it. It's all original except the nut, a refret and one tuner. The original bridge, bridge cover and cable and polishing cloth are in the original case. Long & McQuade put a reissue bridge on it because the old one was too seized from sweat and age to adjust. I plan to put a Staytrem on and get a new bone nut installed. This Jazzmaster has the perfect amount of wear for me. I'm absolutely over the moon about this. I woke up this morning and was afraid to look in case it had all been a dream!!
Here it is beside it's Lacquer 60s cousin that I matched the headstock on and replaced the pickguard (apologies for the cloudy day lighting):

Thanks guys, I'm unbelievably stoked. I don't see this guitar leaving my possession at any time in the future. The first owner didn't sell it until he absolutely couldn't play it anymore and I can see why!

That is lovely ... happy NGD!
I've a late '62 that's been through the wars - but the sunburst is very similar to this one (with the pronounced band of red).
May it wear well!

Maybe not any Mell's, but the "61" looks like it was written by the same hand that dated my '61 Telecaster
