Re: your favorite sub-$150 analog delay/echo
Just picked up the Behringer VD400 which is a clone of the Boss DM2. Cost me £18.50 new from Amazon. It's the second one I've owned and it feels better quality than the first one I had. I used to own a real Boss DM2 and it sounds just as good.
Total bargain.

I use an old DM2.
If you want that analog vibe with longer time, the DM2 Waza is great, imho.
I bought one to a/b with my old 80’s Japanese DM2 and found them basically identical in vibe/sound.

Totally with you on this one - owned a Boss DM-2 for years but recently got the Behringer VD400 off Amazon for £18.95 and I actually think it sounds a bit better than the Boss. The envelope of the decay works better for me. Perhaps a tiny bit brighter as well. Had no problems with clock noise. You can get longer times by adjusting the internal trim pot too which probably degrades the quality but I don't need to do this myself.
I was impressed by the Vox Double Decca as well which is being sold very cheap - long delay times on that one as it cascades two chips. It's ugly but who cares about that?

If you haven't tried them, I would recommend giving the memory toy/boy series a shot. I picked up a memory toy really cheap used ($60?) and I've been loving it for almost a year now. It sounds nice and thick, the repeats are just a liiiiittle dirty, which I really like. It would be nice to have control over the modulation, I'll probably pick up the boy/deluxe boy at some point, but the stock mod on the toy works for me with some songs. I've had much more expensive delays and it's beat them all out for me.
Very glued and greasy reverb sound

The Memory Toy is amazing. Really underrated IMO.green_mario wrote: ↑Sun Mar 18, 2018 11:12 amIf you haven't tried them, I would recommend giving the memory toy/boy series a shot. The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

Man... the little Ibanez AD MINI is pretty fucking great.
I got one for its compactness, but was surprised at how much I really like it-- maybe as much as any of my other delays

I kinda like the sound of these in demos. Any experience with the originals? Wondering if the lower power makes any big difference in headroom and feel?

Honestly, I like it better than original AD-9s I've used

That's cool. I should have been more specific to the original AD-80 with the little rectangular switch. I assume the new ones are 9v vs the 18v originals.
The old AD-9s are cool too, a little smoother less in your face.
Glad to have some nice modern analog delay options that hold their own to the oldies.

Re: your favorite sub-$150 analog delay/echo
I got one on your recommendation and used it for an econo-board to replace my Ibanez UE400/405 racks for tour (pretty close, honestly: ad mini, cs mini (!), MXR D+, CP10). I'm really impressed with the AD mini, regardless of price and size.
The AD mini seems to be somewhere between an AD9 and AD80. I definitely like it more than an AD9 (or variations: ADL, AD9, Delay Champ, UE305, etc) as it's a bit blurrier/not so HiFi so, like an AD80, it works well to create an atmospheric bed of sound.

I got my Moog MF delay used for about the equivalent of 150 U$D. Deal of the century.

The DM-2 Waza is great, and that's coming from someone who prefers Boss' digital delays.
