Re: Reviving the Jagstang 2.0
Definitely like the shift of the upper switches in Mark VII, but I think I'm on team Jag/JM trem, both because of the way it balances everything and because it's a) a better trem, and b) one where really good component options (like Mastery) are available.

Subtle indeed.
Kinda lost this thread for a few days due to distracrion and life. Let me know when you have the design nailed down, as a said it will be a month or so before I can get to building.
My only real recommendation on the design is to stop being concerned with Kurt, the influence is there, but this is very much your design at this point.
Logic gates based on billiard-ball computer designs have also been made to operate using live soldier crabs of the species Mictyris guinotae in place of the billiard balls.

Re: Reviving the Jagstang 2.0
Yeah I think pushing the right horn and pickgaurd down a little is important because, for one thing, it blends the mustang and jaguar horns on both sides now, and for another, the whole body "slants," and the right horn should be no exception. I'd say, barring final polish on proportions, this is the one. Now that there is so much more jag influencing the horn and pickguard, I feel comfortable with the Mustang vibrato again.

I like the way you have it now. The body is nicely balanced. Certainly a big improvement over the original design. Nice job.

Re: Reviving the Jagstang 2.0
It's an interesting thread, as the March/April 1994 Fiesta Red Jag-Stang just sold for 93K USD.
The Red one was a slightly more refined body shape than the original 1993 blue one.
One of the challenges with the design, and what the Fender guys figured out in 1993 (even kurt noted by the second draft), was if you do a literal translation of the Mustang and Jaguar, too much wood ends up in the wrong places, which is why they had to pinch the middle and cut down the arm area
Even in the "done right" jag-stangs, they aren't that far from the original. one of the unique challenges of this shape is that is only really suited to lefty.

Re: Reviving the Jagstang 2.0
Hello.
My name is George from Austria and i have read 5 or more years here, and like jaguars alot. I always wanted a 2nd horn.
What most of you missed is that the left horn seems to have changed to the jazzmaster horn.
The originak 60s jag hirns are much pointier and a feel a bit longer because of it.
New jags are all wrong, even kurt cobain signature model. Its a disgrace. Look up pics of 60s jags and newer. Look at left, only horn closely.
That is what went wrong in many jagstang builds also.
Looks too much like a mustang or jazzmaster horn.
I have worked some days now and also worked the right horn, similar to these last mark VII or mark VIII,
I found outbabout those versions just after i did my version..
I just think yours looks 95 percent mustang and justb5 percent Jag..
But ok itsca shape that everyone can do what he likes with it. I guess there can be 10 or more jagstang versions. Pickguard, plates, trem, pickups, switches etc..
Dud you build yours? It looks really balanced, justva bit too much mustang to my taste thatva regular joe could think its a mustang.
My version shall be a bit more different.. But its hard to keep the butt balanced i agree.
To be honest i have not seen a single jagstang that was done in real that looked got. All ugly. Some very some were ok but not great..
Even the jagstang done right looked ok but not good.
The trick is to make it look diferent to jag or mustang withoutooking ugly and unorpoortional.
Did you build yours yet?
Can anyone please tell me a good pic hosting site?
I want you to look at my final drawing what i want to make into a guitar...
Need your opinion. I hope you like my left horn.
This is a very important feature to get right.

Re: Reviving the Jagstang 2.0
Been a while gang. While I don't have any means of producing my design, I did get some professional mods on my Mexican Jag-Stang Reissue.
Full list of mods:
-refret to narrow tall 6105 frets.
-replane fingerboard to 9.5''
-bone nut
-American Pro Jazz/Jag bridge with 9.5'' radius, improved string spacing, installing upside down for easier intonation
-custom pickguard meticulously measured to duplicate the original but have a SS mustang layout
-Slight pickup cavity routing to fit the bridge pickup in the right place
-black slide switches
-Fralin Blues special neck pickup
-Dimarzio Super Distortion S bridge pickup
-wiring: neck switches in phase-off-out of phase. Bridge switches South split-off-series humbucker
-500k pots
-strings-custom 10.5-46 in Eb. Used tension calculator to get the tension equivalent to 9-42 in standard on a full scale neck.
In my opinion, if the production Jag-Stang was more like this, it would be more popular. Thoughts?

Re: Reviving the Jagstang 2.0
This is my first time coming across this thread. I just read the whole thing and I gotta say, I love your interpretation of the Jagstang!
I've always liked and kinda wanted a Jagstang, but never liked the proportions in Fender's design. Other interpretations like the "Jagstang done right" are markedly better, but still not close enough to the picture in my head... but your version is close enough that I really want one. (Although, I must confess, I'm an uncultured barbarian that would want to use a hardtail Toronado bridge rather than a tremolo/vibrato... and 24.75" scale... in surf green or competition burgundy... or purple burst... with matching headstock...)
As for the mods you did to your production model, definitely an improvement; but I think the bigger reason the model has never been as popular is the lopsided lower proportions and inelegant upper bout.
