Current Singers You like
Much along the lines of the guitar thread. Like the guitar one I was thinking of folk who are quite new to the game in relative terms or peaking but if you want to pick Vera Lynn you can do so.
I'll put my towel down for Agnes Obel, I probably could have picked from a roster of great Nordic singers* but in my opinion Agnes' voice is perfection, so effortless, magical and otherworldly. Her last album Citizen of Glass is her high water mark so far, really beautiful, with incredible arrangements and she's a gifted lyricist.
Lot's of vocalists around at the moment seem to put some stock in looking like they are really trying but I'm more attracted to ones that just open their mouth and birds fly out, where it just seems easy, even if it isn't
Some samplez if you don't know her and if you get the chance check her out live, she's amazing in person.
Agnes Obel - Golden Green
Agnes Obel - Stone and a live version
Agnes Obel - Familiar folk probably know this from Dark and it's the theme of Canadian detective show Cardinal. She sings the 'male' part too.
From the previous Aventime album
Agnes Obel - Fuel To Fire
Agnes Obel - The Curse
Her first album is OK but I'd buy Citizen of Glass and Aventime first.
*not sure why there's so many good ones at the monent, one thing I notice is there's very little crotch grabbing sweaty grunting and bellowing away like they're having some chronic toilet trouble, something that's near endemic in a lot of rock/pop music.

I really like the singer from Japanese Breakfast...the name escapes me right now...cool indie pop, but her vocals go a bit bjork at times.
ALso...I like Muleboy from Bongzilla's new band...he ditches the caveman vocals and actually sings a bit like Sting...go figure.

David Sylvian has an amazing voice, perhaps my most favorite voice of all time. His voice already matured beautifully during the late 80s, but somehow his voice has gotten even better in the latest tracks he has released:
Where's Your Gravity https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Ypikrr6KI8
Do You Know Me Know? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sarfvvyNCzQ
There's also an Acid Folk artist by the name of Kim Doo-soo in Korea, who has a uniquely 'Korean' voice in both vocals and composition. Korea had it's cultural heritage ripped away from itself during the last century, and this man is probably the only artist who actually felt like he was truly representing Korea as a modern artist without relying on schmaltzy kitsch.

Carah Faye Charnow from Shiny Toy Guns/Versant is the siren who I'd crash my ship on a island to. Amazing voice.

Casey from Dear Hunter has an incredible range. Live the guy is just ridiculously amazing too. I was blown away by his range live as well.
Act III: Life And Death
Act IV: Is There Anybody Here?
Act V: The Most Cursed Of Hands/Who Am I
I could also listen to anything with Anthony Green (Circa Survive/Sound Of Animals Fighting/Saosin).

Jazz singer Nicole Atkins is smoky and soulful.

I saw Shiney toy guns back when they were on tour with my friends from kill Hannah. She got food poisoning in Spokane and still preformed...although she did vomit on stage. Great voice.Shadoweclipse13 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2018 12:27 amCarah Faye Charnow from Shiny Toy Guns/Versant is the siren who I'd crash my ship on a island to. Amazing voice.

My pick is an odd one. Mostly because he's so... pop/mainstream. But it's Avi Kaplan from pentatonix. He does this cool overtone singing as well as having a very full round bass voice. He's now performing in a band with his wife...don't remember what they're called.
What is acoustic? Oh, you means a grandpa's guitars? A grandpa's guitars? That's for pussies and grandpas. I think you know it.

I'm jealous! I've never seen Shinys live. If I met Carah, I'd probably ask her to marry me

Prepare to be more jealous... I saw them 3 times and hung out with them on their bus after the show in Sacramento. That's how I found out about the food poisoning...I thought she just drank too much. I kept making fun of their keyboardist for looking like Kurt Harland from information society.Shadoweclipse13 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2018 4:43 amI'm jealous! I've never seen Shinys live. Damn dude, that's pretty sweet. My sister and I saw a few bands a couple years back at the Rave in Milwaukee, and one was Men, Women, And Children. She really wanted their autographs, but they left before the headliner was done. We were going through Taco Bell drive-through and their van was right in front of us, so she jumped out, and asked for autographs. They let her chill in the van for a few while they signed it. Pretty cool

Victoria LeGrand https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OS6duOoxctw
She's one of those singers that is more skilled than she lets on. I've seen her display some real power live that she holds back a bit on record. Anyway, her musical style and approach is aesthetically 'my thing'.
Karin Andersson https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ywQW_4UaI4
My favorite Karin singing is the non-pitch shifted performances but I do like what she does with the effects. Some people think she borrowed some style from Bjork but I don't see it that way at all. I think she has her very own style.
Z Berg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKksMcnkaTA
She's a good friend of mine but I've always loved her voice. This is her new single from her forthcoming very-first solo record.

Re: Current Singers You like
Back on topic though.
A twofer to start off with - Rachel and Becky Unthank
And current because he is still recording/relevant - John Foxx
Thirdly - and this is cheating slightly, because she is only just current, but still has the most beautiful voice, especially her early output, but even now - Joan Baez
