Re: Marshall Origin Series
Interesting that they've only gone for a 8" speaker on the 5 watt model. Thought it could be worth at least a 10" to fatten things up.

Re: Marshall Origin Series
Agreed. I'm not a fan of smaller speakers usually. 10" is about as small as I'd go. Considering the size of the cabinets on these (none of them are tiny cabinets), the 5W should be 10", the 20W should be 12", and so on.

Re: Marshall Origin Series
Yes, but for playing in a appartment, a 8" are better. So it can be a logical choice for a 5 watts amp.Shadoweclipse13 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 02, 2018 3:25 amAgreed. Re: Marshall Origin Series
I could see that. I mostly just wish the Origin 20 was a 12" speaker. Haha.

At least they don't have plastic corners.

Re: Marshall Origin Series
My only concern is what the build quality will be like considering the price point. They're very cheap...hopefully not in terms of construction. We'll have to wait and see.
I'll definitely be trying one out, as having a 'real' Marshall has been out of reach until now.

Re: Marshall Origin Series
For sure. I recently got a Princeton (reissue), and it's pretty solid. Great for practice, but I'm a little skeptical that it's going to have enough clean headroom when playing with a drummer and other instruments, short of miking. The Origin 50 is looking pretty interesting to me. I'm not a big fan of over-the-top Marshal distortion, but I think their clean sound is underrated. So looking forward to giving one of these a tryout.
Buy yeah, a little dubious as to construction quality at these prices. Fingers crossed.

Re: Marshall Origin Series
Over the band, the Princeton most likely won't be clean enough although it will still be heard. They're still pretty damn loud for 15w. And that tone...Stosh221 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2018 12:04 pmFor sure. I recently got a Princeton (reissue), and it's pretty solid. Re: Marshall Origin Series
I realized that all my favorite bands use Marshalls for cleans, some closer to the edge of breakup, but I LOVE that sound.

Re: Marshall Origin Series
interesting idea in theory. i do agree that i like the sound of a marshall clean more than the rawk set. to me, it's a very focused sound in a way that a fender (outside the bassman) cant be. however, i cant help but think marshall have been trying so hard to be both retro and modern at the same time. the problem i always had with the DSL is it seemed like it was trying to please everyone but all i thought was it lacked a sound of it's own. i kinda feel the same about the blackstar ht series.

Re: Marshall Origin Series
I agree. I like the sound of most tube Marshalls, but I hate most of their aesthetics, especially the combos. Much prefer the vintage aesthetics for their combos like the Origin series or the Class 5.

Re: Marshall Origin Series
I agree that the Origin series does have that classic Marshall look. I also like those "offset" amps they did at one point, I swear that and my guitar preference is just a coincidence.

Re: Marshall Origin Series
My favorite home amp is my JTM-1 1W head, usually played through an open-back 2x12 cab (G12M + G12H) unless I want to move it around the house and put it back on the standard small cab.
This new series seem to have a similar voicing, with 3 power levels, an effect loop, and a drums-compatible level of power ... (I don't gig these days but my son is learning drums).
So ... a looooot of interest here for the Origin 20W head.

the buzz around this series is pretty exciting to me. The price seems great. I’m excited to try one out.

Re: Marshall Origin Series
50W 1x12 at $799 pre-order price? That's significantly less money than a DRRI, with twice the power, keeping in mind that the Deluxe is a PCB, albeit a pretty reliable one. It's even less money than the new AC30 I had (I forget the actual version, CC2, C2?) that I ended up going through 3 bad ones before switching to the DRRI.
That seems too good to be true, right? This is one of those companies with the kind of reputation that either make a really cheap/shit product or ask that you pay out the nose for something of quality. That being said, these amps fucking look the business, that's for sure.
