Fender 62 jaguar pickups.
I've been looking on eBay and I was wondering are there two types of 62 pickups? Or just different ad descriptions? Some just say 62 etc made in the USA and some say 62 American vintage etc. With the latter being more expensive.

Re: Fender 62 jaguar pickups.
You can tell if their geniune '62 AVRI pickups because the pole pieces are beveled at the top. They're the only jaguar pickups I know that has these. The rest are usually just flat.
You can tell the difference in the pic above, the top and bottom most pickups are '62 AVRI Jaguar pickups. They also have off white or yellow as well as black lead wires and usually sport cream covers as well.
Sometimes people on ebay try to pass off japanese jag pickups off at 62 RI, so watch out. Should be able to get a pair for $70-$80 on average.

I have 62RI pups in my Jag Special. Love them.
Interesting read. I never knew there was that much of a difference.

Re: Fender 62 jaguar pickups.
Sorry for a super-necro-bump...
So, I purchased 2 separate 62 AVRI Jag pickups. The bridge was from another OSGer and has a beige plastic cover, like a scrabble tile.
The neck, however, which was purchased from eBay, is made of an almost rubbery kind of matt plastic. It also looks a bit like it's been sanded down slightly for some reason, but regardless of that it's definitely made of a different material to the bridge.
Checked my 62 AVRI Jag and both pickups have the "scrabble tile" finish so I don't know what's going on with this other one. I'll get some pics up later and you'll clearly see the difference.
No problem with the sound, though. Stuck it on my Squier Jag and that neck pickup sounds ridiculous!
