Re: Useless PSA - Possibly a duplicate
well.
i had my guitar delivered to work, so i have no photos, and no amp to supplement this post.
first impression, it's the best $300 i've spent in ages.
fit and finish are beautiful, fretwork is very good, i don't think it even needs a set up.
I'm tempted to buy the rest of them.
because i'm a 'cart before the horse' kinda guy, i bought a supro hardcase tuesday. it is also really nice.

I've been to one World's Fair, a picnic, and a rodeo, and that's the stupidest thing i ever heard come out a pair of headphones.

Awesome! This was exactly my impression of mine as well. After I plugged in, I felt like I actually stole the guitar for what I paid.

Re: Useless PSA - Possibly a duplicate
well, here's a little "second day" review.
I still love it, and apart from the fretboard being a little dry, i still don't have anything to complain about.
What i will say, and this might be why there were so many negative reviews, this MIC copy is exactly like the originals.
I don't think it could be closer. It has the same feel, the same weight, the same cheap/weird ergonomics. I LOVE my old Supros, and this fits in perfectly. I think it would be pretty jarring though, to someone who had never played anything but a strat.
although the Vistatone pickup is a different size (might be HB-sized, i have nothing to compare it to) it sounds right.
I switched back and forth between the new one, and my reso-glas Airline, and it would be hard to tell which is which. Pretty amazing, really. Just like the old ones, impossible to coax a pretty sound out of it.
Volume @ 8, you're checking to see if your cable's bad, @10 kids are crying, and the devil's banging on the floor because you're making too much racket.
things i think are cool:
they reproduced the original Rogan knobs (although there's no set-screw, and the indicator is wrong),
they made a good effort on the tuner buttons (you'll notice the new headstock is curvier than the originals. ) and kept the zero fret,
and they stuck with the rosewood bridge. Old-school, and a big part of the Supro sound.
here's some other pics...

Re: Useless PSA - Possibly a duplicate
You know, I played one of these new Supros at Guitar Center, and I was very impressed. They are well constructed guitars, good thick necks on them, I really liked the tailpiece. Good show for not a lot of money, frankly, and I feel I have to retract some of my negative comments about their nation of origin (still lame) but the guitars are very good.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Don't feel obligated to retract anything.Larry Mal wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2017 8:29 pmYou know, I played one of these new Supros at Guitar Center, and I was very impressed. I'm very happy with this guitar, but the cost is a huge qualifier. GC has this model currently for 599 (or 699, can't remember ) and I wouldn't even consider it.
There's some really nice gear coming out of China, but I have a problem spending fat cash on any of it. Makes me sound a little like one of those MAGA asshats, but I wish there were other options.
I know profit drives all this crap, but I would be more likely to buy a $3k Chicago-built reissue than a $1k MIC guitar. Might have been a cool boutique thing to do..

Re: Useless PSA - Possibly a duplicate
Seriously thanks Tiki. I went online trying to find one and they were sold out or way more. I almost grabbed one of the rosewood bridge ones, but the idea of a wooden floating bridge turned me off and the copper color ones looked pretty cool. I appreciate the link. My wife won't, but I do. LOL

That's the model I played... I thought it was great. I'm looking forward to hearing your more in depth thoughts when you have them.

Re: Useless PSA - Possibly a duplicate
For sure. Con's comparison between the original and reissue got me more excited about them also. Especially the pickup. The sound demos I have heard are really good.

Re: Useless PSA - Possibly a duplicate
Yep.
I almost bought it just to compare them. There will be a few differences. Wood vs semi-hollow, the different bridge, Gibson vs Fender scale, and that "s" pickup.
The original pickups were either PAF-looking (Vistatone) or plain, sometimes with a screw in the center (Kingston).
The Jamesport pickup is supposed to be patterned after the Kingston. Brighter, with less mids.
The Roadhouse website probably describes them better, and then it will depend on how close the Supro recipe is to Ken's. ..

If you like it, and have a couple bucks left, Sweetwater for a hardcase.
119 is the best price I could find.
