Well, they certainly picked an appropriate guy to feature in a video about a new Big Muff RI.
I just kinda wish I could go back in time a couple of decades so I could un-learn most of the things I now know about him and just enjoy his art for what it is.

So this is basically a rerelease of the V5? I am eager to try this.
If it works as advertised, that volume equalization feature on the tone bypass is a brilliant feature. I used to have the Tone Wicker version and have nearly pissed myself after absent-mindedly flipping that tone bypass switch.

Love that they put that tone bypass switch on there.
I once bought an old op-amp BM, and posted happily on a forum, and one poster told me to put that tone in bypass and break off the switch, I didn't get why, until I tried it a few weeks later.. Finally I got why Big Muff where a great pedal.

That's a very nice upgrade actually, especially with the volmr normalization.fortytwo wrote: ↑Tue Dec 12, 2017 11:19 amLove that they put that tone bypass switch on there.

Approved.
About time they put 2&2 together and realised there is money to be had reissuing it.

So many people are building affordable clones of all the different muffs with better components (jacks/pots/switches at least) than ehx. Why in the world would anybody go to them instead of picking up a clone off eBay or reverb?

Some people care about branding.

I don't think that's a good comparison as you can buy a Fender (or Squier) guitar at basically any price point. If you need a reliable jazzmaster for gigging, you're not stuck with the functionally adequate (captures the sound/appearance to a large degree) VMJM with its crappy switch. Spend a bit more, get the right thing for you. If you wanted a Big Muff that can be relied on or repaired easily, I wouldn't recommend anything that says "EHX" or "sovtek" on it when somebody like fredric (as an example) builds really awesome-sounding pedals with decent parts for a good price.

The comparison I was making was for USA JMs. AV65 and Custom Shop vs Danocaster, Revelator, etc. Similar or less money for the small-shop builds that offer similar or better quality with similar or better options.MechaBulletBill wrote: ↑Wed Dec 13, 2017 8:54 amI don't think that's a good comparison as you can buy a Fender (or Squier) guitar at basically any price point. Some people are happy with "good quality and original brand" rather than "even better quality and a less familiar name on it".
EHX is to Muffs what Fender is to Offsets. The originator. And some people (especially those who can't be bothered to do the background research on small shops) are happy to stick with what is familiar.
Especially since a lot of people don't actually know what makes a Muff a Muff, a Tonebender a Tonebender, a Fuzz Face a Fuzz Face, etc. Those people might have a hard time understanding which "Muff-inspired" pedals are literally Muffs and which ones are totally different designs intended to sound similar. There's a lot of attempted secrecy by some pedalmakers, when the reality is that their circuit is 99% (or sometimes 100%) a clone.

EHX stuff isn't even expensive at all in the first place, especially their more simple pedals like muffs.

1. I had no idea that my original BM, from 1980 was an op-amp. I will never forgive my mother for selling it at a garage sale, whilst I was away at college.
2. The BM Op-Amp is, like, eighty bucks? How much are the clones and where could I find one?
3. Now I know why all the newer BMs don't sound right to me. I needs my Op-Amp.
