Re: If you could have only one Fender guitar
I love my Tele Custom and really love the sound of a JM neck pickup, so my ideal would probably be a Jazzcaster (Tele single coil bridge, JM neck).

OK, Fender-branded guitar? Nelvis, my ECJM.
Fender style? Kelly Bowery Pine Snakehead Tele.

Re: If you could have only one Fender guitar
hahah shit, well....if you'd asked me a year ago, i probably would have said my US Strat...but i bought a japanese Tele a few months ago, and man.... if I could only have one and had to get rid of the rest of them, i'd keep the Tele.
(and if i could only have one bass guitar, it would be my japanese P)

This. But with the rhythm circuit added.Shadoweclipse13 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 09, 2017 7:02 pmI love my Tele Custom and really love the sound of a JM neck pickup, so my ideal would probably be a Jazzcaster (Tele single coil bridge, JM neck).
The JM neck pickup is indispensable. As is the Tele bridge. And, it's honestly a crime to have a JM neck without a rhythm circuit.
The Tele neck can be pretty closely reproduced with the JM rhythm circuit. And the JM bridge... well, I guess I can turn down the volume on the Tele bridge and get something close.
Also, the JM body has contours. As someone already said... a long session with a Tele can leave your arm bruised.
The question is... to trem or not to trem?

Re: If you could have only one Fender guitar
Absolutely on all counts! I was mostly generalizing outside of pickups. If I was going to do a perfect guitar (and I still might even though I already have a Tele, and am planning to build a JM-type as well). If I was actually doing it, this is what I'd do: JM body shape with front and tummy contours, in either Candy Orange or Shoreline Gold. Hybrid Jazzcaster/Jag-caster pickguard (short Jazzcaster guard with cut-out for upper Jaguar plate, maybe also lower diamond plate) in mint. Matched set of Novaks (Tele bridge, JM-V neck). Bigsby type Tele bridge plate, JM-shape hardtail tremolo plate. 4-way Tele switch (B, B+N, N, Series), with rhythm circuit that would work in every position, and PTB (volume, treble cut, bass cut) pots. Might be too much chrome thoughsirspens wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2017 7:31 pmThis. Took a little creativity (and steady hand) with Paint, but I got it (used the base Warmoth shapes):

I'd keep the 25.5" scale. But I REALLY like the 4 way switch idea.Shadoweclipse13 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2017 9:12 pmAbsolutely on all counts! I was mostly generalizing outside of pickups. Also, I solved my "to trem or not to trem" question. This is a question of sustain ... An operable buzz-stop! Put in position, you get sustain, out of position, classic JM. (sure you have to tune, but if you only get one, what's a bit of tuning.)
ONE GUITAR TO RULE THEM ALL!

Re: If you could have only one Fender guitar
Probably a Jag, bone stock except with a Cobain style 3 way switch plate I guess.
I like Jazzmasters, but short scales fit my Trump size hands much better, and I miss having a trem when I'm playing a Tele. Strats are cool and all, but I never bonded with one, and I never tried a Mustang before.

Re: If you could have only one Fender guitar
Jazzmaster. If I could only have one guitar, it would be a standard Jazzmaster. The neck pickup and the Trem are just sublime. The "B+N" position is very versatile and the bridge pickup is also great with the tone roll down 3/4 way.
I have a Telecaster. Great guitar. Sounds better with my Orange then my 2 JM. But people who say that a standard Tele is more versatile then a JM are crazy IMHO.

that.
When it sells, I'd go buy 80 different $600 guitars, Fender or otherwise.
Maybe some amps & pedals too.
