Thanks Dan! I'm gluing all the frame leg posts this week, and they should be done/cured by the time I get back from seeing my sister in New Mexico this coming weekend. Then the REAL fun begins!

Re: Shadoweclipse13's New Project Thread!
I had a well-written post about the cool things I was doing with the woodworking this weekend, but my work computer freaked out and I lost the whole damn thing. Long story short, I worked on the bed frame this weekend. I made a crosscut sled for the table saw, with mortise for a stop plate:
With that I started cutting the joints for the corners of the bed frame, which didn't quite fit right:
So, I needed to figure out a way around spending $500 or more on a planer, so based on videos from a couple woodworkers I follow on YouTube, I found a thickness planing jig, which I made out of a cut-down 2'x4' piece of very dense particleboard and 4 4' oak 1x3's:
Which I used to get to here:
I've made some cool stuff and I'm trying to get better and learn new techniques all the time, but I gotta say: making a thickness planing jig for a plunge router is one of the proudest moments of my life. It's one thing to use a tool, but it's a whole other thing to make a tool and have it work the way it's supposed to. It feels AMAZING, and is kinda the pick-me-up I needed after the last couple of shitty months.
I don't know about the rest of my life, but as far as the woodworking is concerned, good things are happening at the Shadoweclipse household Stay tuned!

Thanks Brad!!
On a related note, I was pursuing a millwright union apprenticeship (industrial construction), which I'd probably enjoy and be good at, but after a bit of searching for an apprenticeship sponsor and finding that the market just slowed down for the year (coupled with very jaded and unhappy sounding hiring people), I pretty much lost complete interest. My friend/coworker Seth was talking to my boss and mentioned that he thought I'd be a good woodworker professionally speaking, and I remembered that the millwrights and cabinet makers/carpenters shared a local union and that THEY do an apprenticeship as well. Still haven't found a sponsor, but after a weekend of pure bliss making things and slinging sawdust, I'm pursuing that now for a career.

Re: Shadoweclipse13's New Project Thread!
Given up on the idea of getting any painting done on guitars this year as the weather is now getting too cold, so... more progress on the bed frame!
Got the long/side 2x4's planed done a bit, and the chunks cut out of the bottoms, so everything is fitting together now! Still have some fine tuning and smoothing out, but it's all going together mostly smoothly.
Started on the overhangs for the side boards:
Still need to screw down the overhangs for the side boards, but they're cut and fit. This is basically where I'm at right now (end of the weekend and back to work for the week):
I added some extra support and spacing boards between the two sets of posts near the headboard. Starting on the headboard this coming weekend!
ALSO!
I started making a Eurorack case for my AJH MiniMod system:
I cut some little chunks to flush-mount a backing board to. I cut the upper half of the case so it can hold a pair of standard 3U rails for the MiniMod system, and a space under that for 1U tile rails, mostly for utility type of stuff. The section at the bottom I made so I could slide a keyboard in when I'm not playing it.

I like the thickness planer jig! I have a similar jig I built. It's served me well through about 6 body blanks so far.

That's awesome!! I'm hoping I built it straight enough to make guitar bodies that aren't different thicknesses on opposite endsloungelife wrote: ↑Tue Nov 07, 2017 3:35 pmI like the thickness planer jig! I have a similar jig I built. It's served me well through about 6 body blanks so far.

Re: Shadoweclipse13's New Project Thread!
I got up yesterday with the intent to use my sole day off this week to work on the bed a little more, but when I got out to the garage, I found that one of the boards that I already had to remake had cracked because of the nasty cold temperatures that hit in the last few days. So, I'm giving up working on anymore projects for the year, with the exception of this:
The Eurorack case I started earlier is cool, but I'm worried about the spacing between the two sets of rails (not being enough room), so I'm holding off on that case until spring. I decided that I'd make a case for right now with just the 3U spaced rail (no 1U for utility stuff), and when I build the case I want for this system, I'll just save this case for a different synth I'm thinking of building. Still have a little bit more sanding left, and then some staining and poly. Shouldn't be more than a few days until it's done. So excited to have my AJH MiniMod modules out all the time!!

Re: Shadoweclipse13's New Project Thread!
Really long and rough week at work. I finally got around to gluing the Eurorack case, plugging and gluing the drill holes, and adding some cleats for a back panel. Should be able to give it a final sanding this weekend, and stain it already.
For some guitar-related news...
Two of my bodies from Deed_Poll arrived today! I had to get quick mockups before getting into anything (and will get better daylight pictures tomorrow!!). I won't be able to paint them until spring/summer, but I'm gonna get them assembled so I can play them for now.
Humbucker guitar: mahogany body with German carve on edge, routed for stop tailpiece/tune-o-matic and 2 humbuckers. It's gonna be a simple 3-way toggle with a Reverend/G&L style PTB circuit, and will get finished like the Motorik JM seen here:
(though it will actually be a green, not a yellowed gray)
Here's my custom Jag bass with P-bass accoutrements in roasted ash. Routed for a single MM humbucker with a very funky, yet elegant wiring schematic (8-conductor humbucker with each north and south coil wired to it's own 3-way Mustang slider for all sorts of craziness), and again a PTB circuit. Will be finished in Olympic White with an orange Spitfire guard IF I decide to finish the body. I've had the Olympic White and orange tort combo in my head for a VERY long time, but this wood IS really beautiful, so we'll see.

I'm so glad to have been a part of this! It's a wonderful feeling when you can see it all coming together
That bass is gonna be cookin'! Roasted maple neck and roasted ash body... Just add gravy and mash!
Thanks so much dude. It's been a blast working on these.

"Damn that mash looks tasty!" Haha. Mashed potatoes and gravy sounds really good right now
When I first laid the parts on top of them, I wanted to grab a cigar and say "I love it when a plan comes together" haha. Alas, I didn't have any cigars around. But seriously, they look amazing. Being the lover of wood that I am, it's gonna be hard to cover that bass up with white if I do. Luckily, I'll have a few months with it bare first.
No worries man, we aren't done yet! Got the big weird one coming up

Totally love the german carved humbucker guitar! Great Airline vibe with a touch of Roger Rossmeisl ! Finished, it will be
