Still planning on LPB. Dave's tech used some kind of stripper that worked fine on the red paint but did nothing on the black. They are moving to a heat gun for the black paint.

Re: Fender Swinger Restoration Thread
UPDATE: Dave's guitar shop worked on the body, the top coats came off for them using stripper and heat. But they had a heck of a time removing the base grey primer layer as it was something along the lines of bondo - nothing they had tried was able to chemically strip it, tried heat too, it had to be sanded off. Has been refinned and looks really good. Found a vintage musicmaster pick guard cheap that got re-shaped into a proper Swinger guard. Bought a Seymour Duncan Antiquity pickup. I am ready to assemble very soon.

...if you wanna try something weird, this neck is up on ebay now (though the end of the truss rod is snapped off):

Sounds like it was probably done in a car body shop. Pat's pink Jazzmaster had exactly the same kind of paint which was a killer to shift - his buddy at a VW garage did it for him in Mexico. Be good to see this in LPB!FenderBob wrote:UPDATE: Dave's guitar shop worked on the body, the top coats came off for them using stripper and heat. Re: Fender Swinger Restoration Thread
In truth, I don't have anything against the Bass V, heck I would love to have a Bass V.will wrote:FenderBob wrote:don't wanna restore stumpy back to a Bass V?will wrote:...if you wanna try something weird, this neck is up on ebay now (though the end of the truss rod is snapped off):

It's just that CBS Fender wanted Stumpy to be so much more than just a Bass V body. I firmly believe in the 1969 Fender Lovin' Care Dream and their quest to make the perfect guitar. I will champion this little guy back into the realm of what Fender R&D envisioned. With this resurrection, I pay tribute to the months and months of blood, sweat, and tears that went into the design of this guitar.

Just a straight musicmaster neck?
I'd be on the lookout for one that was already non og enough that I wouldn't lose sleep over reshaping the headstock Essential part of the look!

Re: Fender Swinger Restoration Thread
Think I am going straight MM neck w/o cutting headstock. I don't have the heart to reshape, it doesn't bother me not to be 100% vintage accurate.mgeek wrote:

That's looking great! Good call on the colour choice.
