kick starter cable
Didn't know which sub section to post this in.
Browsing through kuckstarter for guitar related things and stumbled across this. It intrigues me, but part of me says " well we've all become used to the tone we have now, this will sound sterile."
Wondered what y'all think.

What is acoustic? Oh, you means a grandpa's guitars? A grandpa's guitars? That's for pussies and grandpas. I think you know it.

Re: kick starter cable
Sounds interesting to me. I like the idea, although I kind of wonder how much better it sounds than wireless systems. I imagine it only really being used with really long cables (>25ft? >50ft??)..seems not worth the hassle otherwise. With a battery on each end, nobody's going to use this for patch cables, you know? My only experience that I'm drawing from is noticing a decreased bass response using a bluetooth receiver compared to a cable connected to my home stereo, but I imagine wireless systems could have some similar issues.
Anyway, for musicians using class d amps and axe-fx, maybe a better solution to the cabling problem is an amp backpack---or: amp/effect harness---OR: powersuit.
Problem solved. Your welcome

I'm curious what it sounds like. Not wild about the battery thing and cost though.
I dabble in audiophile nerdery (well, as nerdy as my broke ass can be anyway), but I tend to set that aside with guitar. Sounding crappy is kind of the point.

Some day, everyone in the audience will wear disposable wireless earbuds, & guitars will beam sound directly into them via microwaves or somesuch. No cables, no amps, no speakers, no pissed-off neighbors. You heard it here first!

Best tone ever. No cables at all. The truest bypass. The klonnest of buffers.saxjag wrote:Some day, everyone in the audience will wear disposable wireless earbuds, & guitars will beam sound directly into them via microwaves or somesuch. Re: kick starter cable
So the thing about optical cables is that they transmit audio using light, and that light can not be obstructed or the signal will fail. If you sharply bend, kink, or step on these cables too hard, they will fail.
This is at best an extremely niche product for an even smaller percentage of the market that will decide they need these, imo.

I don't really know the technology, but surely some conversion component must be in play here? And does it degrade tone like a buffer or something, which are also things that are designed to minimise loss that many hate. Just wondering how light gets to electricity and vice versa? and LDR? as it lights up there's a power source so surely its affecting something!

They won't be disposable... they'll be implants. Part of your augmented reality device. The shit'll beam right into your brain.saxjag wrote:Some day, everyone in the audience will wear disposable wireless earbuds, & guitars will beam sound directly into them via microwaves or somesuch. That already exists, by the way, in one form. I'm guessing you've never been to a "silent rave" or whatever they are called... Re: kick starter cable
my neighbor was trying to get me and another neighbor (engineer) interested in this company maybe 2 years ago? They wouldn't send us a demo cable but sent us a youtube video. The video made the cable sound impressive (a les paul direct to a console) but who knows? I guess some EQ could get you there...
