On my jag I rewired it for two master volumes and for the switches I just have one wired for a kill switch.
It's just like the diagram I posted.
2 pickups. 3-way toggle. 2 vol, 2 tone.

I can't see any use for a kill switch, unless I was a RATM fan which I'm well not!

Mineral streak!!

I was profiling the neck today and it revealed a huge dark streak beneath the otherwise incredible birdseye maple.

Has anyone had this happen before?

Also, would this stop you from buying a guitar?

Have anyone of you builders successfully covered one of these up?

I saw a post on another forum where a guy simply sanded it down slightly, keeping the profile symmetrical down the neck. I'm not sure how much wood he had to take off but I'd hesitate on that because you'd have to refinish it then. If the guitar was one of those great feeling and sounding ones, I'd probably just use it. If it was just average, I'd keep looking.

I shaved a bit more off today and the streak is slightly smaller. I could take more off but the profile shape is perfect. I'm reluctant to make the neck any thinner.

It's probably best to not mess with it too much if the profile is good. Do you have a photo of the streak after working on it?

This wouldn't' stop me, although I could probably see many people asking for some kind of discount

Also, I agree with Rgand, don't mess with the profile anymore

Thanks for the pic. That reduced the impact of it considerably. The bird's eye can now take over visually.

I can probably live with this.

It's wood, it's a natural product, it comes with imperfections . . . .

Screwed up heel profile, tuner holes drilled wrong, off center inlays, bad fret work = reasons for a return (or at the least a discount)

Imperfections in the wood in an otherwise good product . . . maybe a (very) slight discount but that's it . . .

Also, it's a guitar, it's supposed to make music . . . and get used, and scratched, and dinged and . . . . none of which you would do on purpose but it happens . . . .
When thinking about any advice given always ask yourself "why would (s)he know more than I do".

This is true. The sound it makes is most important, seconded by ease to play. After that, it's all not that critical.
