That's great! When I saw where you were going with things, I scrolled down and at each pic I was like, "OMG he's gonna do it... oh, it's getting closer... it's really gonna happen... OH YEAH HE'S DOIN IT!"
Nice work.

This could be one of the craziest saves ever. I mean, c'mon. That utterly destroyed Mustang? Really?*
*yes, really.

Is anyone else hoping that the body isn't refinished and left looking just like that? Because I am. With the exception of reshaping the small added piece, I would leave as is. Talk about a conversation starter.

I finally finish building a guitar, go to play it, and then remember, "oh yeah, that's right. I suck at playing... Why did I build another guitar again?"

...quick update. I found a cheap '66 Musicmaster pickup with a break in the windings near the start of the coil - where it can't just be unwound a turn or two for a repair. I managed to fix it by using some solder and a scrap of copper shielding tape:

Will, once again, your resuscitation skills are admirable. It's awesome to see dead and abused vintage parts brought back to life and made useful again.will wrote:...quick update. This is really cool!!! Most radical mustang ever! You should keep the two finishes as it is.

How about a "split" Tort/Mint pickguard?

I'm not going to refinish - mostly because it would be too much work!higgsblossom wrote:Definitely my first thought, too.AWSchmit wrote:Is anyone else hoping that the body isn't refinished and left looking just like that? I like the Musicmaster pickguard that I tracked down. ...though maybe if I find two mutilated pickguards that I can siamese-together?

Re: Two wrongs make a right? Mustang/Musicmaster project
Your project reminds me of a talk I had with the fantastic James Johnston of Gallon Drunk who happens to play a split Squier Japan Strat that he "glued" together with duct tape and he said was his favourite guitar still. Just add some distortion and a lot of stage action, and it will eventually break again, anyway
