Re: The Zvex Super Hard On (SHO) Appreciation Thread.
I have a 2003 2in1 that I love, and I used to have a great 2004 SHO that I used all the time on earlier recordings until I stupidly sold it to fund some other fleeting obsession. I remember thinking it sounded great, but I was using such stupidly loud amps at the time (Ampeg V4s, Vox AC50, Bassman 100) that boosting a signal seemed like madness. Now that I use smaller amps, I finally get why people use them.
I'm actually debating picking up another SHO just in case my 2in1 gets wonky (as the older ones sometimes do).

They're great! I've got two SHOs (inc one that I use whenever I plug straight into an amp), a Super Duper and, in terms of other similar circuits, a Tremorama, Wah Probe and Box of Rock. They all sounds different, but my first (2001) SHO sounds best.

I'll pile onto the SHO lovefest too. It's pretty amazing the number of sounds that you can get out them w/ a single knob.
The Channel 2 probably gets used the most for me, but the JHS Prestige is really nice too w/ the buffer and slightly brighter sound, as is the Double Rock when configured for dual boost for the massive array of options and purple flake finish

Yeah, I've been thinking of grabbing a Channel 2, so it's nice to hear that they didn't lose the magic in the conversion to a smaller enclosure.Sid Nitzerglobin wrote:I'll pile onto the SHO lovefest too. It's pretty amazing the number of sounds that you can get out them w/ a single knob.

Went back to my SD Pickup Booster and it's been holding its own, but it does lack a little of the magic. Hmmmmm

Anyone other than johnnysomersett successful jamming one of these with a Traynor TS series solid state? Kinda almost close to grabbing a clone...

No affiliation, but East River Audio is doing a tiny SHO clone now. For $40 shipped it's pretty tempting.

That is tempting. I've had a clone (first pedal I built) for awhile at the end of my chain, but last week I got a Catalinbread DLS and moved the SHO in front...makes a great instant roar switch.marqueemoon wrote:No affiliation, but East River Audio is doing a tiny SHO clone now. East River Audio clone is tempting fo sho ( sorry sorry ). I do prefer a larger/"standard" size enclosure though.
