Apparently, I'm not a fan of germaniums? Pedals just sound better to me without them - or at least, split germ/sili.
Different strokes, I guess.
Thanks Parry! Yeah, so far I'm breadboarding some utility pedals for my boards from Storyboardist's pedal site, but yeah, I could spend hours making fun stuff. It also doesn't help that I'm fairly new to breadboarding and trying to take a pedal layout and transcribe it to a breadboard setup can be diffifcult. I probably should get a book on it the next time I'm at Half Price Books...

Totally agree on the Germanium thing too. I've heard A LOT of classic albums that used Germanium pedals (especially fuzzes) that sounded awesome, but I've always liked Silicone for myself better. I always want to like it, but just never jive with it myself...

Same here...plus they are cheaper and more consistent 8)

Oh and Parry, I got that all silicon harmonic percolator going ;D its sounding great, put it in a 2-in-1 pedal with a meathead (also has a lpb1 on a toggle).

I'll have something else to post soon keeping up the tradition of me and parry totally flooding this thread, i've been keeping most of my "prototype" pedals and other weird projects & have been slowly constructing a board solely of my unfinished-enclosures-with-dymo-labels.

On another note, i built my first non drive/fuzz pedal and used vero instead of turretboard! A really lo-fi vintage style tremolo with a lpb1 boosting it to stop the volume drop.
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

I love germaniums in some things. Particularly Rats, although I suppose that is actually a hybrid in the end with the LM308 and output transistor. Often LEDs can do that just as well though for diodes.
Depends on the context to me, for high gain fuzzes or boosts i want to be clean I'm not so keen. I think I like the diodes but not the transistors, and not too much because LEDs do MORE of that kind of difference.
Same opinion i have with tubes/SS or analogue/digital, sometimes it doesn't work as nicely as you think it sounds when playing at low volumes on your own..

Vintage tremolo with a pre and post gain stage (lpb1 pre, lovepedal woodrow post) to let you boost the signal back up to unity and beyond + add a little bit of crunch.

Its very dark and lofi sounding, i love it

Couple of demos of two devices i've recently built. Ones a more original design that started off as a meathead into a model-T tone stack, but deviated into more extreme territories: its a doom or glitch-synth pedal for bass or guitar.

Second is basically a nice rat clone, assymetrical germanium/mosfet, LED or no diodes....and a few mods i've not seen others do before to 'fix' the usual complaints of rats (not that i think they are complaints but its nice to have a fat bassy tone and an amp-like tone on tap.)

Excuse the noodling, i was often playing with settings between chords and have never done a demo before. Pics to come soon as I worked out some interesting water-slide art for this.

Wrapped this one up last night. It's a Valve Wizard Equinox II reverb. Sounds better than a couple Belton brick based reverbs I've built to boot. Had a friend who does calligraphy do the lettering and it came out really nicely.

Finally got these two finished.
First one is a Super Duper 2 in 1, with a switch that flips the order of the effects.
Second one is a BYOC Silver Pony klone kit.

I've been wanting to do a delay or verb with the PT chips for a while. Was it a direct clone or using the datasheet. It all looks pretty compact and simple though even with two chips.
I had some outlandish idea to get a very diffuse verb using a LOT of chips to see if it could be more like e.g. the afterneath or hazarai style reverb. Also from the modulation of one pt2399 it would be cool to have that in there, I wonder how close you can get to the DSP stuff out nowadays, because i rate PT2399 a lot but mainly hear spring style boxes like yours, or the accutronics. I mean what would happen if you had two of those, plus a modulated delay version in series....its definitely on my list to do!

The Parry pedal labelling is really nice. Kinda reminiscent of a luxury shaving product from a posh boutique, in contrast to the usual Hallowe'en remainder stock look many production pedals seem to shoot for.

What I've been building recently... a few originals, plus superfuzz and fuzz war clone with added features, and included in the originals are both a companion and a meathead within various additional sections.

I really want to build 2 or 3 pedals to sell, to fund buying parts to make more pedals.
I have researched pedal building for ages now and i am ready to get stuck in with a soldering iron and get to work, but I only have a horrible amp (fender frontman 15 with a torn speaker) to test my builds on.
I’m worried that if I get a circuit sounding good through my amp, it won’t sound good through the person who buys the pedal’s amp.
I don’t know anyone with a guitar amp or have a music store near me. I cannot afford to buy a new amp. I intend on replacing the speaker on my current one with pedal profit money.
I’m not a gear fetishizer, my amp really does sound awful. What advice do the pedal builders of osg have for me? Am I worrying too much?

Is this our very first build? I'd firstly say, that perhaps the first three by sod's law will usually need loads of debugging, and to probably build them for yourself rather than keeping up too much hope to get much more than the cost of parts back...
It depends what the pedal does really. Listening to it DI through headphones is usually a good test for levels of noise, and if its something that really warps the guitar's signal is pretty good indication of how the pedal will actually sound. You can sometimes expect e.g. an AC30 to take it differently, but then they aren't good at taking pedals, and i'd only worry about that if it were a specialist pedal. However amps will have different impedances so you can expect some changes with a fuzz, but probably not many other types of pedals. It might be possible to simulate EQ of amps with an amp-sim, from a bunch of free plugins, although this may or may not be sufficient if impedances change things, and certainly no-one yet claims are near the real deal...it just gives you a different tonality to run it through.
On the other hand, milder effects, especially ones that interact with an amp, I'd think it would be quite important. Anything like a preamp, boost or overdrive, and some fuzzes are interacting quite strongly.... If you want to put it through the full testing I'd say yes, try it with various amps, and even in a band situation perhaps too, as well as some super-clean DI stuff. Or at least one functioning guitar amp, depends how serious you want it to be.

Thanks for the advice. I've built a few circuits in the past but never boxed any of them up. I just remembered I have a usb interface that I could also use to try stuff through. I think I'm just gonna dive in and get started, will post updates on here once I get the ball rolling!
