Yeah it's a gem, it's weird, the album is only a couple of days old but I was in the car with all the kids yesterday and we were all singing along like we'd known it for years. The hills were reverberating to the Choir Shadowplay belting out the big glam chorus of 'Janie's in Love'.wingnutkj wrote:"Hungry is the Ghost" = wow.
It cool you've come back to her, I think she going from strength to strength. My album came with a bonus cassete of demos of unreleased tracks but I've not had a chance to play it yet.

The general mood of the record is fantastic. 'Waking' is my current favorite.

Thanks that looks brilliant. All the kids will be wanting a PRS, she's apparently their only female endorsee! I was hoping it would be the full band thing with Wrekmeister Harmonies but it still looks brilliant. Sadly when I saw her the other week the drummer had to go home before the gig because he was due to play with someone else and it wasn't the full beans other audiences had been treated to but the Wrekmeister Harmonies main guy and the female violinist really added something anyway. The violinist's tremulous, slow motion, and heart piercing playing (I think her name was Ester) reminded me of Hahn Rowe of Hugo Largo.

Man I cringe at the title of this thread.
Anyway the new one'For My Crimes' is out, anyone bought it, how are you all finding it?
Early days for me, I've got other records keeping it off the TT this week but I'm instinively not enjoying it as much as the last few albums. Not sure what it is, it's quite traditional on initial encounter and not quite as gloaming or as swoonsome but perhaps I'm being hasty. LOVE Blue Vapor though, it's almost like a Swans song with the volume down and I really like Interlocking.
Here's her doing an acoustical version of the title track Marissa Nadler - For My Crimes (Official Live Acoustic Video)

Spotify just played me Marissa's new cover of GnR. First thing I thought of is that it will probably make your head explode (but maybe not).shadowplay wrote: ↑Thu Oct 04, 2018 6:22 amMan I cringe at the title of this thread.

It's actually pretty good. I like the original but it's too melodramatic and didn't age well imo. I love her version.

She's covered songs in the past I've been between indifferent and despising and generally pulled it off. I heard this the other day and I'll definitely buy the record, though she can write MILES better songs herself. The key to the cover is no Slash, no Axl and none of the rest of them which is generally the key to everything good and holy.mediocreplayer wrote: ↑Sun Apr 07, 2019 1:35 pmSpotify just played me Marissa's new cover of GnR. Really like the Droneflower elpee. A lot of the Guitar reminds me of later Earth and her singing is absolutely gorgeous. I think it's better than For My Crimes, I was worried it might be a 'genre' record but it's more minds meeting than her singing over the doom.mediocreplayer wrote: ↑Sun Apr 07, 2019 1:35 pmSpotify just played me Marissa's new cover of GnR. Ditto - really like it. I've been listening to it a bit at work via Bandcamp, but the LP's sitting by the record player at home, waiting for a suitable time for me to sit down and properly immerse myself in it.shadowplay wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2019 3:24 amReally like the Droneflower elpee.
