1966/67 Musicmaster II restoration - DONE !!!
Hello,
This thread follow that one:
http://www.offsetguitars.com/forums/vie ... 41&t=98116
So,
Nothing fancy here.
I've decided to go the vintage correct way for that one.
I will keep the natural finish as I like it though...
Anyway,
I received a mid 60's pickguard a few days ago.
Red tort, very beautiful and deep.
This is my first vintage tort guard, and I begin to understand the appeal !!
The guard was listed as in perfect condition.
But it's all shrunken!!!
Nothing is lining up anymore.
The seller was kind enough to offer a full refund for it...so I basically have a vintage tort for free...ok it doesn't fi, but still!!
As I plan to keep that guitar for ever, I will drill some new holes in the body, and enlarge the pickup route in the pickguard...no big deal afterall.
Ok then, pics!!
I actually really like the red on natural...
I'm currently waiting for a set of 3 cream pickup covers (1 for this one and 2 for the OW Mustang). I'll hunt a vintage one later, as they are hard to find and super expensive pieces of plastic.
I've also sent the original pickup to MojoPickups for a rewind.
I guess he received the pickup today.
Marc will send it back to me soon...with a set of Mustang pickups with Tele specs, for my red Duo Sonic !!!!
That's awesome.

Great to see that project coming alive!
Marc always does awesome job on pickups, it will sound fantastic!
The red on natural looks great! And the dark fretboard is gorgeous

Thanks guys!!
Seafoam Green would be nice...
But I'm all into natural finishes these days.
The truth is I'm slowly considering to darken the body with tru oil, like that incredible Mustang body PJazzmaster is currently selling
It would look super nice with the red tort!!!

I can't remember if it was here or elsewhere, but I remember a thread about a guy that developed a technique for flattening/stretching out shrunken torts. Might be worth looking up. I think he heated them up in the oven as the first part. Can't remember the rest.
Edit: ok, it was for fixing wavy torts as opposed to shrunken- but I guess it depends on how shrunken?

Re: 1966/67 Musicmaster II restoration - DONE !!!
And she is done!!!
I got the pickup yesterday and found some time today to solder everything.
She is great, she sounds great, she plays great and she looks great.
It really is an awesome little guitar...I couldn't be happier.
The pickup cover I got look similar to an old one (I think) and the pickguard is actually quite fine, I had to drill some new holes into the body though, but it's ok, this one is a keeper

Well this is quite a beautiful looking guitar, congrats. these have the most comfortable necks for me, how does yours play?
It's weird to see how they put the body together, is it just the picture, or is it a three-piece body indeed with the third piece "separated" by the upper waist?

Thank you guys!!
This neck plays wonderfully, it's a 22'5" scale but it's super comfortable, easy to play and a glove to my hands...might be my favorite one actuallymothershipzeta wrote:these have the most comfortable necks for me, how does yours play?

never played one of those smaller necks, I'd love to try one out.. lot of people have massive hate for them, and those are the things that usually click with meraphaël wrote: it's a 22'5" scale but it's super comfortable, easy to play and a glove to my hands...might be my favorite one actually

I think the hate is mostly about the A width...I guess they all are As (correct me if I'm wrong)
But A width is freakin' awesome !!!
That said, 22'5" is very small...but it's a lot of fun, for sure
