POLL - Offset guitars: Pretty or Practical
Looking at my Squier VI and my Jazzy-B I was thinking about how they get your attention when you look at them. Then I considered that the body design is also quite practical, allowing access to the higher frets with reasonable comfort. So, because it's Wednesday and I'm bored I thought I'd see who thinks what and why.

I voted practical. From what I know, Leo Fender devised the Jag and JM as functional evolutions of his then existing product line. They were designed with specific intent to perform in a specific way. The aesthetics were simply a bonus.

Both: pretty without explanation. Practical because of the bunch of sounds, you get out of them. And the jag/jazztrem is the best trem ever made.

I voted "pretty". Much as I really love my JMJM, any real play with the trem knocks it out of tune (despite reading and following setup advice on OSG). This doesn't happen with my homely Strat.

I voted for pretty because while my jm is comfortable while standing, I hate playing it on the couch. The tele is a better shape for being lazy

The way they balance both on a lap and on a strap is a feat of ergonomics. The fact that their curves are still so enticing almost 60 years later is a feat of aesthetics.

The vibrato never goes out of tune on any Jazzmaster or Jaguar I've owned. Can not say that for every strat Ive played.brucer wrote:I voted "pretty".
