Where are all the 70s Jazzmasters?

When I look at GC pics/ads for vintage gear, which I can't help doing when they pop up on searches, I always get suspicious. They seem to like to leave out changed-out part details. There IS the refund policy, but it's a pain to buy just to have a look.
I have seen a few great guitars, in-store, that have just been brought in by family members after someone's passing. I think they don't know where else to sell the gear.

How do other people feel about buying from GC?

I bought my 75 Jazzmaster from GC. The guitar is completely awesome, best JM I have laid hands on, but that didn't come easy. I saw the guitar on sale from another city, so I called and asked all the right questions, and got all the answers I was looking for. None of them turned out to be true. The guitar arrived with no trem bar, I specifically asked if it was included, they said yes. I asked if it was all original to which they replied ,"Yes, we've taken it all apart and everything checks out." Upon unpacking it I immediately noticed that the nut had been replaced. The guitar didn't even work when I went to pick it up. My local stored got everything sorted out and I haven't looked back, but GC knows little to nothing about vintage gear. I got lucky with what turned out to be an awesome guitar, but if you can't play it first hand, I would be extremely leery of a vintage piece from GC.

Yeah, thanks for the info.
I do feel like they like to say "yes" to all the inquiries about parts being 'right." And that they omit or just don't know as much as we do. The main problem I have is with the guitars located across country. Can't look up-close and they don't bother to take pics of the insides, which they say has all been inspected...

Just felt the need to refer you to mine! Original LPB! Toyed with selling it, had an offer of a trade on here but I'm in a bit of a weird limbo with it at the moment. I love it and play it but know I could probably get a lot of money and a sunburst one instead... Also flirting with the idea of a Jag again..!

Don't get me wrong, I love it, I play it, I rehearse and gig with it, it's just I picked up my Japanese Jag the other day and began GASing for a vintage one... Think I might prefer Jags over Jazzies?

It's been my intention for a long time to do a thread with some new pictures and the album I recorded with it - detailing specifically which tracks had what setting and what gear I used, kind of like a "1973 Jazzmaster in real life action" sort of thing. Not sure if that'd really be of interest to anyone?

I own a 1971. Nice guitar. Not too heavy. The pickups kill. Offsets are not my primary guitars, but I do use this JM quite a bit due to it's unique tone.

I've never seen a 70s Jazzmaster in the flesh, but I saw a "1978" on craigslist when I lived in San Francisco. Seller was clearing out a lot of old stuff and only wanted $750 for the JM. It sold in about an hour

I remember playing a 'new' one in a shop in Coventry around '84 that was NOS but was def blocks/big headstock. It wasn't great from memory but likely the usual setup story.

There is currently one for sale in the Netherlands for 1650€. Only issue with it is that the it ha routing for an extra pickup . Otherwise a nice JM.
