Jazzmaster 77-78 Vintage (just)

Post by reserves » Mon Aug 12, 2013 4:37 am

Guess my Jazzmaster only just makes the vintage cut (pre-80)

Not a NGD as had this for about 13 years, but first time i'd seen it for a while, seems that the 70's ones have had a bit of revival.

Beautiful! Black pickguards on sunburst like yours really do it for me.

Oh my!! :? that's gorgeous.

Doesn't a S70 serial corresponds to 1970?

From here http://www.tdpri.com/resources/dating-your-fender/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

"So starting in mid-1976 the serial number was moved to a decal on the peghead. Even with the new system, Fender didn’t like to throw away a perfectly good serialized decal just because the year code would be incorrect. So, the information on the peghead could be off as much as two years. Generally speaking, a “S” prefix equals the 1970′s (Seventies)"

S7 + 5 digits = 1977-1978

Thank you! :)

This is then certainly one of the last jazzies before reissues!

Pretty sure they are, it's certainly heavier than my 60's JM's.

Wow!

I'm sooo gassing for one of those. I've seen quite a few for sale recently - all in the €1500-1900 range, so still kinda affordable.

Definitely looks like ash - you can almost see the weight :D

Wouldn't bother me too much, tho...

Absolutely lovely. I love late 70 Fender in general; that block neck, ash bodies, the big headstock decal, and the black pickguard are all a perfect combination as far as I'm concerned, and yours is in perfect shape. Glad you're getting to spend more time with her.
