Once again, im glad I bailed. I could tell a lot of the cuts they make are freehand, so I figured it'd be nothing but problems once my guitar was built.

Is this the same company that built Jakes?

Yes it is. Same company.

Returning is not even an option as shipping to China is so fkn expensive.

Wow. Crazily inconsistent!! Well, I'm basing that statement on Jakes looking alright in the photos.

I'd normally say "you get what you paid for" but $700 is a pretty big chunk of change.

I noticed a lot of flaws on my firebird build based on the pics they sent me.

So I was like, fuck no, im not buying that guitar.

$700 gets you a nice used MIJ Fender.

what a crazy feeling waiting for this guitar to arrive!

excitement...apprehension...

i guess, at the very least, it will be an expensive wall hanging! 8)

I am looking forward (with popcorn close at hand) to see the body....

But I must admit I am intrigued why everyone seems to be "giving these guys ago" when it is obvious that "their deck is certainly short a few cards" ... cutting things by hand, can't drill straight bridge post holes, paint jobs that appear nothing like what was requested.

There are many (and I mean many) awesome guitar manufacturers in China and many would be over the moon to build something like this...
I would not be surprised if you translated their chinese name back into English and it read "The Arthur Daily Guitar factory"

anyway back to the pop corn ;D
relaxing alternative to doing actual work ...

Update:

I rerouted some of the holes and installed the bridge/trem, and stringed up.

...I actually like it. Acoustically, it rings out like a bell and it's super loud for an electric. It's also surprisingly comfortable to play. The Antiquity set compliments the semi hollow body well too. Nut is also surprisingly well cut. It's actually more comfortable to play than my VM Jag.

I still have to switch out the dismal 'chrome' plates and the pickguard, and I'm still miffed about the amateur aspects of the build, but I'm pretty satisfied, all in all. I guess getting a guitar from these guys is worth it if you have the tools and skills to put in some work

i hear what you guys are saying...

but at the time of the latest three order (whiney minotaur, jbicuiti and mine) the only negative report was Tribi's. the other people who ordered (in this thread and our old friend, Mongoose--remember him???) were satisfied.

i wish i knew more about the different chinese builders.

No negative review from me. All I said that based on observation, I came to the conclusion that I didn't want to deal with a guitar built with freehand cuts /measurements.

Also the one thing that I hate about Ric copies, are those big ugly ass pickups they use. Like the ones they put on the build they were doing for me. They specifically brag about using the right pickups on their website.

But the review on the plastic parts, the routes, the glued in wood, control panels, the huge uneven block do make me glad I didn't end up taking a chance.

Thats great that Minotaur could clean up the mess on his guitar, but not everybody has the tools/skill to do so.

Good luck Jake, what is the tracking # saying?

By that point you could buy a licensed body and neck from Warmoth (finished) for the same price, probably sans the semi-hollow aspect though.

Saying it's worth it to pay someone in China if you have the skills to basically re-do all of their work... I mean, I don't disagree, but it seems unnecessary.
