Acoustics
We're talking a lot about Electrics and all that, but what I want to know is...
Do you have a favourite acoustic?
My personal favourite is my Custom Shop Avalon Millennium Oak Model. It's amazing (and made here in NI too, which is a plus).
(this isn't my one, just a picture of one of the 10 that they made)
It's quite astonishingly loud, with a terrifying amount of low end.

Re: Acoustics
Sweet. I like an acoustic with a big fat body like that.
I have a 12-string in Oz which is some kind of Yamaha .. sounds pretty OK and has served me well over the years. I lent it to someone reliable and the last I heard it still lives with them in Sydney.
I've also inherited an old 12-string Eko over here which is on the list for renovation .. it's not worth taking to a luthier so I'll probably try refretting it myself .. but that would mean doing my first fret job on a bound neck which might be a little ambitious.

Re: Acoustics
My dad has an old EKO Navaho 12-string lying about the house. It fell off its stand about ayear ago, and the top separated from the sides at the endpin- but it's still holding its tuning a year later...
It sounds great, but the sound is so unbelievably quiet (probably due to the inch-thick finish, bolt-on neck and shallow angle trapeze tailpiece...) - EKO used to overbuild the hell out of all their guitars, it's practically bulletproof!

Re: Acoustics
I only have really crappy acoustics. A steel-string Hondo, a nylon stringed German one, and my favourite, pictured below. I got this from the ex-boss of my bassist friend Jane. The action is so high that it can only be used for slide, but it does a great job at that.

Re: Acoustics
I love my Gibson Gospel! My dad bought it for my mom back in like the late seventies or something and she gave it to me on my 21st birthday. I'll take a pic and post it.

Re: Acoustics
I've had this Epiphone EJ200 for about 10 years...bought it new...
the action is a bit on the high side, and I've been meaning to have the nut cut correctly for err....a decade!
I do play it every now and then, I've always loved playing acoustic guitar, it's so natural....the particular guitar sounds great...has quite a bit of bottom end to it.
one day, I'd love to get an old Hummingbird...till then, this will do for them Johnny Cash Moments

Re: Acoustics
My main acoustic got stolen a couple months back (was a guild super jumbo, one of the first guitars I got, it was such a powerful sounding instrument...)
So I play a yamaha nylon string (MIJ got it for free, pretty decent...) , and a 50's Gretsch Burl Ives Jr, model , which needs to be repaired (backs coming off, neck could be reset) which works for slide nicely, when its not broken.........

Re: Acoustics
I've got a Rainsong Parlor guitar with a rosewood body and a graphite top. 12 fret mahogany neck. I think it sounds wonderful and it surprisingly loud for such a small guitar.

Re: Acoustics
I prefer electrics and don't play that much acoustic, but for recording I have a cheap but nice canadian Art & Lutherie guitar - I once broke the top during a hard after-show backstage session (I think too many tequila was involved ), but it still works and sounds good...

I'm quite fond of my Martin DX-1R, even if the back and sides are made from HPL/masonite/whatever (:o). The top is solid spruce and the tone is all Martin. If you hit the low E and just let it go it will ring for about 3 weeks straight.

Re: Acoustics
cheers I really love it. My one looks a little bit different (the binding is a lighter wood) so I'll take some pics soon and post them up. It barely leaves my parent's house except for gigs - I don't feel like it's safe in my house in belfast. Every time I go up to their house I pretty much spend all my time playing it.flatfiver wrote: Chris - that Avalon is GORGEOUS!

I have a really bottom-of-the-line Fender electro-acoustic, which, for all its made-in-China cheap and cheerfulness, sounds really nice.
