I also tried one at GC the other day and it may very well be the comfiest electric guitar out there.

Just checking in to groan about Klaus Nomi again. Since last time, I learned that he totally bit his steez from an outfit David Bowie wore once, so... back to the rock ouvre, I guess.

She nicknamed the white model "The Thin White Duke".

I bought one of these a few months after their release (the blue one) and damn it's a great guitar. The neck is particularly excellent, narrower board than I'd generally opt for but doesn't seem cramped, the profile is substantial enough but not overly so to feel very comfortable however I'm playing it, and the rosewood is just so smooth. I've generally described the body shape as 2 imperial star destroyers colliding and as a whole package it really works for me aesthetically. It's also a very comfortable guitar to play for me as a long armed, long fingered, 6'2" ~200lb. dude, both ergonomically and aesthetically. The Dimarzio minihums work really well, they're a bit darker than I usually shoot for, but they have a goldilocks zone output level for me, good articulation, and really nice character to them, and the switching options provide a pretty nice range of sounds I don't have in any of the other guitars.

The 2 negatives on this guitar for me are the sorta restricted upper fret access from the straight/reverse angle lower cut (really the only practical complaint I've got w/ it) and I'd prefer a different set of inlays (they don't look bad necessarily, just think I would prefer straight up dots/bars). I guess the smurf hat headstock isn't my favorite either, but it seems to serve some practical purpose in keeping the balance good and the string pulls are pretty straight over the nut.

The now discontinued "Big Al" bass (and the Bongo) demonstrates Ernie Ball's willingness to push the envelope design-wise. The retro-futurist Jetsons like body of the Big Al always jarred a little with the 3-1 headstock IMO. Visually, the St. Vincent might have benefited from a more integrated design but it's still a great original looking guitar.

Nah, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
