The Aria Pro II Urchin was brought up.

..speaking of bells n whistles..

I guess most know me as "the amp guy" but truth be told i´m a big fan of the golden years Japanese crop of guitars and own quite a few. 36 to be more specific,yes...incl a U-100. The U-100 was the top of the line Urchin and one might think what one wants of the design, which has a lot of BC-Rich over it,but it IS a formidable guitar. A friggin machine even.
I try n rotate all them guitars as far as rehearsals as well as gigs..and indeed many of the high end offerings are..one notch above. The U-100s as many of the other more or less high end offerings have in turned gone completely ballistic as far as what they fetch vs just a few years ago.

There´s mention of the Kawai Moonsault...have owned a few of the era Kawais and make no mistake. The contrast vs the early ones is friggin mindboggling. The later Kawais are REAL good guitars, the moonsault included.

Me i´ve come to focus on what was made by Matsumoku and Yamaki Gakki, and there´s been a few Mat guitars in the thread thus far

Well. Here´s one you won´t see every day.

Image

The elusive Neal Schon. Those claiming the flames of a ´59 paul are...in abundance hasn´t seen sheeet.. Very few were made and i looked all over the world for quite some time before cathing this one. Bells n whistles? Yeah, and then some...but FOR a guitar!

Here its brother the Gerry Cott.

Image

...then for your basic PE-1000 Masterpiece.

All of them absolutely fantastic guitars and IMO what the LesPaul design might very well have evolved to let to.

On the stratocaster theme in turn, the PE-160 "Dragonstrat". Yep. The dragon (there were eagles as well) has been carved by hand. In stock form absolytely shit guitars but with its hardware replaced they can turn into screamers. In fact it´s to the point where even the collectors find it ok with hardware replaced, they´re THAT bad. This one with a steel Gotoh bridge and DM Area pups.

Man, I want the schematic for that U-100 Urchin - that's like MY kind of guitar - knobs n' switches everywhere and of course I could actually figure out how to make use of all of em'.

Yes!! I took a pattern off one while I had it in for some repairs, and I have a SS4L (same guitar except for the body), so when I find some appropriately inappropriate Formica, I'll whip up a body and have me a SD4L (clone) :-*

Mmh, 1 to 5 are common, 6 and 7 are either a coil split or a series/parallel for each humbucker, and 13 is a varitone (with 10 bypassing it). The rest is one or two boosts.

It should not be that complicated to map all of that. But would take a few annoying hours to put together and solder.

Ooooh... I love that. Wouldn't look out of place in the Mystic Braves or King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard.

Played one of these today in white. i actually quite liked it. The basswood body makes it very snappy sounding. Pretty on the fence on the shape, but I'm loving this iridescent purple finish.
