I guess my Gretsch Astro Jet belongs in this thread. It seems to be the Marmite of the guitar world.

It’s just the headstock that makes it so whacky. The body body shape and the pick guard and what not look fine. Quite nice actually. Designer went bonkers when it came to the headstock.

ooh I LOVE the Framus Billy Lorento solidbodies! I wish I could find one for reasonable price...looks like it's a forerunner to my Framus Nashville (which also belongs to this thread IMO)

Arndt Anderson ,cool guitar ,one of a kind -in great shape , like new. sounds awesome, great sustain.Arndt Anderson was a master machinist who was one of the first luthiers to create an electric guitar out of metal with CNC equipment. He knew his materials – he chose magnesium as his material for the neck, as it offset the body weight (aluminum.) Thus the guitar was not neck heavy, like many of the other aluminum neck guitars (Travis Bean, Kramer) made in that time. (Magnesium is lighter than aluminum and has a better strength-to-weight ratio.)
He was commissioned by Missing Persons to create their instruments. Look up their music video for Give on YouTube. LYES had one of these guitars. (Phil Collins, Alan White, Neil Peart, and Rick Allen

These guitars were made entirely by Arndt on CNC equipment, including the radius fingerboard and fret slots, which according to him were machined with a tolerance of 0.0005” (five ten-thousandths). This accuracy has paid off, as it is the most accurate guitar I own – every note hits the projected note with incredible accuracy.

Details: AZ31B Magnesium neck, AZ31B magnesium headstock and 6061 Aluminum body. The neck is solid and one-piece (no separate fingerboard) – this is also why the guitar is so accurate.

The body is machined from a 5/8” thick plate, and the back side has a large-radius fillet around the outside edge. The back cover is machined from Delrin. The neck is about 3/4" thick, and the back is a flattened C-shaped profile. Fret wire is Dunlop nickel. humbucker pickups. There is one volume and one tone control, as well as a 4-way rotary switch for different pickup configurations: Neck position, Bridge position, Both in series, Both in parallel.

^ ^ HA!! ^ ^

That things like an optical illusion. Absolutely nuts!!
I can't say I love it at all but it's very cleverly designed. I just hope that paler section of the top is painted, rather than being a separate piece of wood altogether (which would surely compromise performance).
You think you can't, you wish you could, I know you can, I wish you would. Slip inside this house as you pass by.

Most Gibsons are ugly to me, but everyone pretends these did not happen:

highly under-rated guitars imho. there was an es version which was used by the guy from shipping news and imho just worked great for that band.

Aren't there Kalamazoo brand guitars that are even closer to the look of a Mustang?

For me the real 'Mustang' Gibsons were the Melody makers - the cheapest student guitar with a Gibson badge on it iirc. Those shouldn't be overlooked - I've had a few over the years and the pickups, while not as loud as P90s, still have plenty of poke. The two pickup melody makers (the earlier non-SG shape) are the sweet spot in my view - and tend to be good, simple and cheap guitars (though like all things 'vintage' they're starting to go up in price - you used to be able to pick up an 'issues' one, with say ... a decent headstock repair ... for less than the price of an Epiphone SG or LP).

The only thing that I don't like about these is the Les Paul-shaped guard. I know that early SGs were actually dubbed "Les Paul", but that shape just looks wrong to me. Everything else is cool about them.
