I bought the 347 in 1991 for $700. It was a lot of money back then. I suppose it will fetch more at my estate sale after they pry it from my cold, dead hands.

2017 Guild X-175 Manhattan. Just got it this year. South Korea made Newark Street collection. Good deal on Reverb. Really authoritative P-90 like pickups. Bassier and woodier than a jazzmaster but not totally dissimilar. Frets like speed bumps and it can definitely use some fine touches like a filed nut and trim the bridge to make it fit the top more closely. Plays like a battering ram with .11s. It's humungus. Stuck the pole pieces way out from the pickups, and that made it sound 1000% better. Still getting used to it. I didn't mean to buy this one. I was in the market for a vintage Guild and this one popped up as a deal. Would sell to help make that happen. I think somebody tried a homebrew pickup aging technique. Smelled like patchouli oil when I bought it.


1950's Harmony Monterey. Thrift store fairy tale. $8 from Good Will. Pretty beat up. Glued on a binding graft and reglued lots of loose neck binding. Set up with flat wounds. Super solid including the neck joint. Solid pressed top, nice nitro finish. Couch guitar for a few years now.



2009 Hofner CT-Club. Made in China. Really cool, unique guitar. Would sell it if offered a good amount. Just don't play it enough. Closed semi-hollow box like Paul McCartney's violin bass. Super cool minihumbuckers. None of these pictures do the finishes justice, but this one least of all. Really beautiful maple neck/body.


2006 Yamaha FG-700S. Bought this the week I graduated High School. Solid top, laminated back and sides. It's always had low action. That's a dual blade humbucker in the home made sound hole job. The ground is tied through the ball end of a string. The long ends on the other end connect the rest of the strings and ground the whole thing. 13 years of playing and wear and it's definitely has some mojo and sentimentality. Still a Yamaha though.


2004 Peerless Epiphone Sheraton II
Totally stock. Bought when I was in high school. Only weak spot are the standard Epi dumb-buckers. Not the most articulate. Way too hot. Bridge pickup is better than the neck though.

IMHO These are the only es style guitars that are worth a damn looks wise. Everything else just looks like a wrong es. These however, those horns. There's something very right about them. How does that beast sound?

I feel the same way. It’s like an ES, only fully hollow and with some cool stylistic choices on the headstock and horns. It really is its own thing. The neck pickup brings the thump. It is very deep and smooth sounding. On this one, the bridge pickup is a bit microphonic and weak sounding, so I’m sending it off to Curtis Novak to be rewound. Given the playability of this bass, I’m sure it will be worth it!

Since it seems to be popular, here's a bit more about the Harmony.



Cool old silk screen logo. A few bushings are missing. That reinforced neck is solid as a titanium. It's nearly 1" thick it's while length


Note the sad crooked d string tuner old these stiff open gears.


You can see my binding graft in this one. Also, a deep gouge out of the neck around the 7th fret. It's ugly, but my thumb nestles into it really nicely. Birch wood neck back and sides.


You can see some of that fine American craftsmanship in this one. Note the hide glue blobs and the rough milling on the bridge. Also, the top is solid, but it's pressed, not carved. They lined the f holes with a fabric backing. It was low rent move back in the day, but it's back as a high rent "innovation" at the lines of Gibson.

It's 25,5" scale. That with the thicc neck means it takes some hutspa to play. Once you're used to it though, it's a pleasure. It feels/sounds Wagnarian. Very brusk and tough.

There is some actual real quality touches. The neck for being non adjustable is perfect. Fall away and everything.

I'm glad I have it. It's tought me that 60 year old gear can be a daily driver.

Old Montereys are awesome. Here's mine- late '30s or so 1320:

It's had a lot of work done to the neck, and it plays great now.
I've since found a second identical one in similar condition, with the exact same bent neck issue that this one had, so it will be an easy fix when I get to it.

ooh, is that a rythm chief pickup ? I want something like that so badly for my Hofner, which I apparently never posted in this thread :

Loving that Hofner, Flurko! Can we see more of it? Also, rhythm chief pickups are nice! I have a replica of one in my LP special-ish guitar and it sounds fabulous in the neck position. Plenty of clarity.
