I played mine with my band for the first time this weekend too, but I found the pickups to be too weak and kinda thin sounding. I'm saving for some Custom Shop Nocaster pickups.StevenO wrote:I was able to play my new Tele for the first time with my band. I was worried it wouldn't fit in, but wow, what a sound! It sounds amazing! A really, really great guitar.
I definitely like it more than my Jazzmaster at this point.

My Tele has Lollar '52s and they sounded huge! They sounded bigger, more dynamic, and wider than my Jazzmaster pickups ever have. They sat perfectly in the mix, whereas my Jazzmaster tends to sit on it, if that makes sense.
Really impressed by this guitar!
Definitely check out some Nocaster pickups. I hear they are amazing! (I've played them countless times, but never in a band mix)

Now I'm dying to know how the Jazzy pickup sounds in the neck.alfal013 wrote:I've had this tele for almost 16 years. It was the first electric I ever purchased. Started out as a Mexican Standard. Now the only original parts are the neck, body, control plate, and screws. Everything else has been replaced over the years.

It actually sounds BIG. Excellent compliment to the tele bridge pup. I've had teles with humbuckers and mini-humbuckers in the neck. They didn't balance well for me. The JM pup still maintains some sparkle and has a nice fat bass. With both pickups together the guitar sounds nice and twangy. It's actually pretty versatile as you have three very distinct sounds that balance with each other.Baconfish wrote: Now I'm dying to know how the Jazzy pickup sounds in the neck.

I've got Lollars in three of my Teles and they are just fantastic pickups. A big +3, so to speak!StevenO wrote:My Tele has Lollar '52s and they sounded huge! Another modded MIM Standard.
1999 MIM Standard Body
1994 MIM Special Neck (9.5" radius, Vintage style logo, kluson style tuners, medium-jumbo frets)
Pickup Wizard JM Neck Pickup
Seymour Duncan Hot for Tele Tapped pickup (14k in one position, 7k in another, controlled by a mini-toggle on the control plate)
Bigsby B5, with a notched out Tele 3-saddle Bridge.
Sounds great. This is "the" guitar. I've had it since I was 11, bought it with my own money, and modded the living hell out of it.

I always liked the Tele in this vid, as well as the performance.

Absolutely! I wish Maggie could come around and take a photo of it. My crappy photo doesn't do it justice.MT wrote:Black on black is the only colour for Tele Customs in my opinion. There's absolutely no show pony about it. It's all work horse.Kilgore Trout wrote:My 1986 MIJ telecaster custom:

Thought I'd post another pic of my '61 Tele as the other one doesn't really do it justice and I keep mentioning the '59 Chevy too, so here they both are!

Here's a "Tele" that I just finished. It's my take on a La Cabronita, but built for a few thousand dollars less than Fender charges.
